Surprise rooster?

Funny timing - he started crowing this morning, lol. Boy, like someone had said above, this boy never even made our rooster radar. :)

I have had chickens for years, when one day, a hen next to me crowed, and I realized he was a rooster. good grief.

If you have a child, get rid of all of them. Roosters ruin the whole chicken thing for a lot of people. No one should be scared in their own back yard, and if you have been attacked, well intelligence makes you scared. When one gets down on their knees, and see the level of an attacking rooster, it can change the perspective. Wait two or three years, the child will be taller.

There is plenty of time to enjoy all the aspects of chickens, just be patient.

I agree with @Mrs. K. Roosters and small children don't usually mix due to the small stature and unpredictability of the child and the unpredictability of a young cockerel just coming into his hormones. I would keep the child and cockerel separate for the next several months until you see what sort of temperament the cockerel has.

I've had my share of mean roosters, but my present two legbars roos are as sweet and well behaved as I could ever want. The younger one, just one year old, is so sweet and sociable, he waits in line with the hens for hugs and cuddles. The older one is polite and shows impeccable deference to me almost to a fault.
