Thank you guys so much! This is the most friendly forum I have ever been! I guess you can be a bad person and love raising chickens at the same time.

I'm pretty sure that is happening, and I'm not sure what to do about it. I had two hens, then one was killed, then it got really cold and we're borrowing a neighbour's coop, so I grabbed what I could get to help keep her warm. It is working too... they've all three been sharing a nesting box during the -14 nights we've been having for 2 weeks...

We really don't want to get more chickens till we build our own coop, which will be insulated and heated for winter, by the way! So I'm hoping my girl doesn't get too haggard. She seems okay, a little tired, and isn't losing too many feathers, so I'm monitoring the situation and hoping that they don't wear her out. The cold snap should be over in another five or six days, and then I can keep her separated if I have to.

I've made a lot of mistakes on my path to chicken owner...
