Surrogate mom-putting chicks under a broody-success

She has been broody 2 weeks, they are 2 days old. She’s a silkie - first time doing this she’s only 1 year old. When they pop out from under her she doesn’t call to them or anything and did peck one. Doesn’t seem to get it yet? I have had to put them back under her. I know people say just place them under and give it time but I don’t have a high threshold for putting them at risk if she decides to hurt them .

The little pecks are normal. If she gets serious about causing harm you will know it.

It takes a day or so for them to learn to listen to her. It may take longer especially since this is her first go at being a mom.

She IS a silkie so should do well. They are notorious for being broody and do tend to make excellent mothers.

I have silkies.. They live to be mommas.. I love it but its sort of a pain too..
