Ella nodded, flopping down beside the pool of water and letting her front paws dangle in it, allowing a small smile.

In a few minutes, Taz's breath slowed, and he managed to struggle to his feet. He padded silently towards Ella, his fur dripping wet and heavy, making it hard to walk. He began to explain. "When you're in the water, you always have to keep your legs, front and back, moving, no matter what. Also, try to take in a big intake of air before you dive, so that you float better," he said in a low, almost hushed voice. Taz glanced at the murky depths with worried eyes.
Ella nodded, seemingly uncertain of herself, now. "Okay..." she said in a soft voice.

"Don't worry, you can do it. Remember, I'm always here to save you," he replied in a encouraging tone, grinning.

Ella nodded, then took a deep breath and leaped into the pond, her legs churning slowly but not too slowly. She felt herself sink and gasped, but... She didn't go under. No, instead, she was paddling around the pool, her head mostly under water, but still not submerged! Weak as she was with swimming, she was still doing it! She was swimming!

Taz's heart froze as he saw her go under. But as she resurfaced, he relaxed, his heart continuing to beat normally. He swam towards her, nearly leaping out of the water for pure joy.

Mystery inhaled sharply at the sound of his name, but that was it. He was still. Watching hopefully, Cerise noticed this, but she lost hope when nothing came of it. She padded to Saffron's side. "Are they stable enough to be moved? There's room in the big den to keep them safe," she said, though she wasn't sure how either would be moved easily.

She looked up as the other dogs began to emerge from hiding. Murmurs here and there were interrupted by sounds of surprise at seeing Mystery and Dixie, and some screams at the sight of Steel. Cerise took in a deep breath, knowing she had no time to focus on her own concerns. This pack needed their leader now more than ever. She climbed the junk pile and took her place on the ledge outside her den, her pose dominant and strong.

"Chroma pack," she began, her voice filled with strength in spite of its mournful tones. "We have witnessed betrayal at its lowest level today. The dog I thought I could trust most..." She fell silent, her eyes moving to Steel's body. "...He has died in dishonor." She shook her head, dragging her gaze away from the body of her Beta and sending it out over the dogs below. "But Chroma pack will live on, and we will be stronger because of this experience!"

It seemed no one was certain of what to do at that point, but as Cerise felt their eyes on her, she knew they would get past this hardship. "I need a patrol to dispose of Steel's body. He is not worthy of resting with the honorable dogs of our past." She looked around for volunteers, glad to see the patrol that had helped in the initial capture of Teal take up the task. Her eyes moving to Saffron, she sighed. "Celeste and Morado," she began, seeing the diggers by the mine seemingly without anything to do. "Help Saffron with the wounded."

She wanted at that point just to vanish into her den, but... The fur stood up on the back of her neck as she remembered seeing Teal there in the shadows. She wasn't sure if she could ever feel comfortable in there again... Instead, she stood high above her pack and watched the dogs below.

Taz crawled out of the freezing water after her, his legs wobbling from the weight of his soaked fur. He shook himself, droplets of water flying everywhere.

Saffron looked surprised at Mystery's sudden inhale when his name was spoken, as if it was a sign for her. "Viridian...?" she said it again, uncertain if she would get the same reaction again. Her gaze wandered to Dixie, and she immediately ran to the distraught female's body. Dixie was moving! Her legs were churning ever so slightly and her eyes were open. "Who are you...?" Dixie groaned, struggling into a sitting position. "What happened?" she asked so many questions, then her eyes rested on Mystery's still form.

"Mystery!" she screeched as she saw her friend's still, seemingly motionless form on the ground not far from her. She struggled to her feet and ran to Mystery's side, though her body leaned to the left and she eventually fell over involuntarily, her legs still kicking as she did. Writhing and squirming up beside her dark-colored friend, she licked his muzzle. "Mystery... Mystery, no! Please don't do this!" she howled, tears streaming down her face.

Saffron was surprised by her patient's sudden awakening, but remained calm and composed. "Ah, ah, ah... Sit down..." she said sternly as Dixie ran to Mystery. Too late. The she dog had already fallen over. "You can't go running around already; you've gotta give that a moment. Right now, I need you to eat these," she said, placing some Juniper berries by the she-dog.

Dixie looked at the berries, her face skeptical. "No," she finally said, after staring at Saffron for the longest time. "And who are you, anyways?" she added. She laid her muzzle by Mystery's and sighed. He was still breathing, but seemingly lifeless.

Celeste looked at Morado with surprise in his expression, then walked up to Saffron. "Do you need any help?" he asked, gesturing for Morado to follow his lead.

Ella laughed and rolled in the grass happily, wiggling every which way, rubbing away the water. Finally, she stood up. She now looked like a pincushion, with sticks and grass poking out everywhere.
