Quote: Saffron nodded again, remaining mostly silent and concentrated on her work. "Well, in that case, she likely hasn't lost too much blood, though I may be wrong. You'd be surprised at how much blood a dog can lose in just a few minutes." she finally replied, after examining the wounds. "Drat, no more horsetail!" she spat to herself, pulling a clump of goldenrod out instead. Chewing them quickly, turning them into a finely ground paste, she slathered it on over Dixie's wounds. Several small clusters of purple berries sat not far from the goldenrod, along with dandelion leaves and very dry oak leaves.

Turning back to Mystery, she murmured, "He should have woken up a while ago... It's not usual for a dog to stay unconscious for so long..." Her brow was furrowed in worry, but she padded up to him and nudged him gently, muttering comforting things as she did. He has to wake up, she thought worriedly.

Teal laughed as he ran along through the city, ducking under benches and swerving around trash bins. He had succeeded at last! Oh, what joy! Mystery was gone and he had been made to suffer a heartbreaking loss before he went! Teal had won!

...But now what? The thought crossed his mind, wiping all happiness from his expression. That was all he had striven for, all he had left to do in this life. Teal realized with some shock that, as much as he despised the very thought, all he had lived for was Mystery. Revenge on his brother was everything he had, and now...

Teal shook his head, running on. He could do other things! He could... He could..! He roared out in frustration, his mind drawing a blank. Skidding to a halt, he hit his head against the asphalt at his paws. He would not let this be the end! He would not let Mystery's death bring his work to a halt.

"Teal!" came a voice from nearby. Teal looked up to see the young she-dog sister of Cerise. Scarlet had been leading a patrol in the area, and now the dogs stood warily on the sidewalk, as if unsure if they wanted to attack or not.

Teal sneered at them. That was one thing he never thought of doing... He could make Cerise suffer for ever daring to banish him... He grinned, stepping toward Scarlet threateningly.

And then, the loud honk of a truck's horn sounded at his right. Teal turned to face the vehicle, his pupils shrinking as the light of its headlights blared at him. Drat, he thought. There was no time to get out of its way. With horror, Scarlet and her patrol watched as the truck ran right into Teal, its wheels screeching as it tried and failed to stop in time. The patrol dogs scattered as the vehicle stopped and humans climbed out of it.

"Oh, man... Poor doggy," said one human. They stood somewhat awkwardly over Teal for a few minutes, before one finally said something and the men began to pick the wounded dog up. He was limp, his body twisted and mangled by the accident. Scarlet watched from a dark alley as the humans put him into the back of their truck, and then climbed in the sides and drove off.

Barking for her patrol, she stepped out of the alley and looked around at the dogs. "We must report to Cerise," she said, and the dogs nodded in agreement. And so, they headed off toward the junkyard.
(Can Cyan jump in here, or is that enough chaos already?)

Ella nodded, then whapped Taz on the back with a paw to help him cough up the water. "Well, I tried..." she said sadly, looking down at the calming waters.

(*Gasp* Guess what?! I am back O.O )

Taz coughed a final time, water pouring from his mouth like a waterfall. Still breathing like he had just run a very long distance, he looked up at her with warm, comforting eyes. "Y-you were g-great," he stammered between big intakes of air. "L-let me c-catch my b-breath, and t-then I'll t-teach y-you what I kn-know," Taz added, bending his front legs in order to lay down.

Quote: (*Gasp* YAY!)

Ella nodded, flopping down beside the pool of water and letting her front paws dangle in it, allowing a small smile.

In a few minutes, Taz's breath slowed, and he managed to struggle to his feet. He padded silently towards Ella, his fur dripping wet and heavy, making it hard to walk. He began to explain. "When you're in the water, you always have to keep your legs, front and back, moving, no matter what. Also, try to take in a big intake of air before you dive, so that you float better," he said in a low, almost hushed voice. Taz glanced at the murky depths with worried eyes.

Saffron nodded again, remaining mostly silent and concentrated on her work. "Well, in that case, she likely hasn't lost too much blood, though I may be wrong. Cerise offered Saffron a grateful smile, though as the medical dog turned back to Mystery, the Alpha frowned again. She turned as well, looking over Mystery quietly. "...It's not good, is it?" she said softly. The black dog offered no movement beyond the slight rise and fall of his side that showed he was breathing. Cerise's ears drooped. They owed these two dogs so much... They just had to pull through...

Ella nodded, seemingly uncertain of herself, now. "Okay..." she said in a soft voice.

Quote: Saffron shook her head. "Doesn't look like it, no," she said softly. "Why, oh, why, must there be a war all the time?" she lamented under her breath, her eyes pooling with unshed tears for these two dogs. Dixie remained unconscious, and Saffron regarded her with worry that was beginning to show through her toughness. She looked back at Mystery and sighed. "Come on, Viridian... Pull through, pal... Come on..." she whispered, her eyes locked on his still form, as if willing him to wake up.

(Well? Is Mystery dead?! D: I hope not!)
