Dixie stood there, her eyes locked on Mystery's as she did. Her heart seemed to beat faster with each word he said. Slowly, she began to make out what he was saying. Small tears pricked at the corners of her eyes. "Oh, Mystery..." she said softly, her gaze never leaving his. She waited for him to finish his sentence before crying, as she had the feeling it was something important that he was trying to say.

"Dixie... I..." Mystery's mind swirled, but he kept it together, gritting his teeth as with every movement he made, pain coursed through him. "From the moment we met... Well, maybe not that long, but..." He chuckled, though immediately regretted it. "I... love you... I really do... I've never... felt so strong... And I want to know... Dixie, will you..." He inhaled sharply, desperate to finish that sentence. "...be my mate?" He listened intently, his ears tilted in her direction. He managed to pull his paws closer to him, starting to feel cold again. The warmth that Dixie made him feel was overpowered by it. Teal's bite must have hit something. His eyes swam in darkness. He just had to hang on a little longer. But his eyelids fluttered, and that darkness was closing in on him...

Mystery smiled, a moment of strength coursing through his body. He managed to lift his head, just brushing her cheek with his nose. "Thank... you..." he breathed. And then he dropped his head back to the ground, and his eyes fell shut.

((DUN DUN DUNNN! Gotta go, I'll be back ASAP!))

Quote: "Taz, look," Ella said. She dropped the item she was carrying: it was a McDonald's box with a burger, half eaten, inside.

Taz looked at her with shining eyes. "Thanks, let's share!" he yipped, the morning sun shining brightly on his dark, long, brown fur.

Dixie smiled briefly at his touch before bursting into boughs of sobs as he fell silent. Saffron finished mingling and ushered her out of the den with a soft but strict, "Shoo! Go, on, scoot!" That done and Dixie gone, she busied herself with Mystery. She remembered one of her observations at the fight scene, that Mystery didn't have nearly the strength he should. She plucked a few Lambs' Ears and placed them beside his nose before rapping him gently on the top of the head.

"Viridian, I need you to eat these plants. You hear me?" she said sternly, hoping he'd wake up.

(EEK, NOOOO! D': Well, be back soon!)

Well, while I wait...

All was calm, save for the rumbling of the occasional car going by.

Where... Where am I..?

The dog's eyes cracked open ever-so-slightly, his vision murky and swimming. Another car rumbled past. Must have been a road near there...

Oh, my head...

His muscles were weak, and his head hurt so badly that it was hard to focus on anything but the pain. Blinking, his vision slowly cleared, save for a slight blur to it. He was lying in grass, surrounded by just a couple trees and bushes. His black fur was soaked, but the heat of the sun was slowly drying it and warming him up.

Wh-what happened..?

He remembered a storm, a terrible storm. He was running. Seeking shelter? He couldn't recall. The rest was just... darkness... He tried to lift his head, but his neck was too weak. He was tired, so tired... His vision began to swirl again and his eyes fell closed, though he could still feel cars going past and the warmth of the sun.

...And footsteps. Someone was nearby, but he was much too tired to even care.

"Alright, Sonya, do ya know why we're here?"

A voice... It was male, and probably of no interest to him. He was too weak to really care, anyway.

"S-scouting?"

Hmm, now that was a sweet voice. He raised his brows in interest, though he was too weak to open his eyes.

"No, Sonya, specifically here."

Apparently this Sonya was speechless. He listened on, aware of the voices getting closer. So they'd stumble across him. He didn't really care at that point.

"Well, then sniff 'round an' see what ya find, girl!"

There were pawsteps not too far from his own paws, and he heard a sudden gasp of horror.

"Dad! Come here!"

He couldn't hang on any longer... He blacked out to the sound of dogs walking around him...
(Where we first met Mystery... <3 Took forever to find this post!)

((Well, that stinks, Chickenfan... At least you know she had a good life.

Swampson and Sonya finished patching up the unconscious dog just then, and Swampson came over to survey Hollyleap's work. "Decent work... Nice, even coat... Ya ain't too bad at this," he commented. "Keep up yer practice and ya'll make a medical dog some day." He looked at her seriously, giving her a curt nod. His attention was drawn away from Hollyleap, though, as movement came from the corner where the unconscious dog lay.

Sonya stood nearby, timidly taking a step back and eyeing the dog. He moaned, his eyes opening slightly. "Where..?" he looked up, catching sight of Sonya. His pretty green eyes flew open the rest of the way, and he lifted his head to look directly at her. "Well, he-llo," he said with a charming smile, putting emphasis on the last syllable.

Sonya's face heated up and she looked away from his gaze down with a small, "Oh..." Managing a smile, she glanced toward the strange dog as he sat up.

"Just my luck to be rescued by such a lovely--" He cut his statement short as he sat up, spotting Swampson a few paces away with a furious look on his face. "...such a lovely group of dogs," he finished, trying to make it seem like that's what he meant to say. "Hello," he greeted, though Swampson had such a deeply angry look on his face that the strange dog fell silent.

"'Lo," Swampson half-snarled, limping over to his daughter protectively and casting a dark look at the stranger.

"Dad, relax," sighed Sonya, elbowing her father. Feeling a bit more confident with him by her side, though, she looked back to the stranger. "Um, hello. Who are you?"

The stranger plastered a handsome smile on his face, though it shrank when he heard Swampson mutter something. "My name's... Uh..."

Now Swampson seemed a bit more interested. "Ya hit yer head pretty hard, didn't ya?" he asked, almost sarcastically.

"..Mystery! That's it!" finished the dog, grinning. "My name's Mystery. So, uh, where exactly am I?"

(The post in which we learn Mystery's character (or most of it) and his name!)

Dixie padded up to Mystery, and a low growl sounded in her throat; "Who's the new guy?" she spat. She wasn't very welcoming to new dogs, and held on to that dark side of herself that had made her acceptable in Jargo's eyes. She contained her own demonic secrets, and often considers rejoining the Jargoans.

She padded over to Taj and scowled again; "Who's this?" she snarled in disgust.

She was so haughty at the time; she's warmed up to Mystery a lot, now!)
