Dixie leaned against him and one side of her head seemed to vanish into his dark fur as she did. "Yes, they are," she replied, watching Jade try to pounce Minty while Raven, almost completely healed, hobbled around in the den until she found her beloved squeak toy. Raven's little body wobbled as she ratted the toy and finally, she let it go mid-swing and watched it fly into the side of Jade's head. The pup yelped in surprise, fell on his rump, and began to wail. Dixie just shook her head.

Her expression turning serious as she remembered something, she added, "Mystery, we don't have much longer until we will have to find a pup care for the puppies; you know we have to go back to work, don't you?"

Mystery blinked in surprise. "A pupsitter?" he said aloud. He supposed he had always assumed Dixie would take care of the pups until they were old enough to go without supervision. Perhaps that wasn't ideal, he considered, nodding almost grimly. The question was, who was trustworthy? Celeste and Morado were busy in the mines, Scarlet, Mantis, and Russet were all hard at work themselves, and he shuddered to think leaving Light with the pups--that would be like asking Raven to watch her brother and sister! It would be a tough call... Offering Dixie a small smile, he shrugged. "We can ask around the pack, see who everyone recommends," he suggested.

((Oh my gosh, I think I have the perfect character for this job! Oh, yay!! :D ))

Quote: Dixie nodded. "That's what I was thinking," she said quietly. She didn't want to let the pups hear their plans, but, it was far too late for that! Raven came bounding over. "What's that mama?" she yipped, her little tail a blur as she wagged it double-time.

(Oh, perfect! :D Oh, and, I am doing Mystery and Dixie in a Photoshop Paint picture. It won't be shaded until I learn more about that, but... I suppose it's okay...)

Mystery looked to Raven, hiding his expression of alarm well. He wasn't sure if Dixie wanted the pups to know of their plans, but they would find out eventually, right? He took a deep breath, then gave his daughter a warm smile. "Your mom and I were just talking about finding someone to play with you pups while we're busy," he said, hoping that saying it that way would discourage any refusal to stay with a sitter.

((Gosh, I'm excited now! This is a character I haven't played in so long! :D Mind if I bring him in and write his profile later? And I can't wait to see the picture!! I bet it's awesome!! :D ))

Raven grinned mischievously. "Right, so, wike another pwaymate?" she asked, her tail wagging harder. She was starting to have trouble pronouncing certain letters, and it was starting to show. Dixie shook her head firmly. "No, like another mommy or daddy," she said sternly. Raven frowned.

(I can tell you're excited. Go ahead and bring him in; and, thanks, I need that encouragement, 'cause the darned thing has taken several hours over the course of several days and is so... Difficult! But it really is a cute picture...)

Minty bobbled up, having overheard the conversation her parents were having with Raven. Raising a brow, she tilted her head up at her mother, blinking curiously. "But why do we need a new mommy or daddy?" She made a small gasping sound. "Is daddy broken?!"

Chuckling a bit at the idea, Mystery shook his head to Minty. "No, no, I'm fine," he assured her. Looking to Dixie somewhat awkwardly, he ran a few words through his mind before settling on what he was going to say. "But sometimes, mommy and I will have to go do work for the pack, and you pups have to stay here at home while we do."

"No, you're just going to be watched by someone," Dixie reassured calmly. raven began to sniffle. "But... But..." she stammered, small tears at the rims of her eyes.

Mystery suddenly felt guilty, and though he wanted to reassure Raven, he didn't know how. Before he could come up with a way, though, a commotion came from outside. Blinking to Dixie in surprise, he turned to look outside to see what was happening.

It was full daylight by then and though dogs had been sent off to their various duties, they began to gather there at the base of the junk pile to watch in surprise as a patrol of dogs dragged a stranger into the junkyard.

"Cerise!" one barked desperately. "We've found a trespasser! He looks like trouble!"

As the patrol dog barked for Cerise, the others in the patrol dragged the stranger forward to where Cerise could look at him from her ledge high above. He was massive, with great long legs and a stocky, muscular build. His gray fur was shaggy and unkempt, patchy in places that clearly had scars hidden beneath. His dark blue eyes gazed out from beneath bite and slash marks across his face, and much of his right ear was missing, though his other ear was perked almost curiously. He was frightening, his great hulking form, and he had clearly seen worse days by the amount of scars he had.

Cerise appeared from above and looked down at the dog almost speechlessly. Keeping her composure, though, she gave the stranger a hard look and spoke, her voice strong and ringing out with the promise that she would not fall victim to another demonic dog on her pack's territory. "Who are you, and what are you doing on Chroma pack land?"

((He is an Irish Wolfhound, by the way. ;) ))

Dixie leaped to her feet and rushed a few paces away to see what was going on. Hearing the word "trespasser" she immediately felt guilty, for her job as a sentry had been neglected in exchange for her role of being a mother. Looking at the dog, she thought, just thought, to herself, "Well, he doesn't look like a bad guy at all," and realized that she'd said it. "I mean, he's not evil," she explained as she felt several pairs of eyes turned on her.

(He already sounds cool!)

The stranger had been about to speak when he heard Dixie, his gaze moving to her. He even smiled gratefully, dipping his head lightly. "Glad ya think so, miss," he uttered. The patrol dogs didn't seem to agree, though, snarling at his every movement. Cerise looked to Dixie fondly, and it occurred to her that perhaps she had jumped to a conclusion based on this stranger's appearance. She was ashamed that she had, but let it pass, knowing that it was simply a result of Teal's evil deeds. "Please speak," she said, her reddish-brown eyes falling on the stranger again.

The stranger cleared his throat a bit, obviously a bit nervous by the attention he was receiving. "Aye, well, I s'ppose I been on me own fer too long. Di'n't even notice yer border, ma'am." He sighed lightly, shaking his head. "Been lookin' fer a pack, though, ma'am, and ya got yerself a fine one 'ere. I'd be glad ter make up fer me mistake if'n I'd be allowed ter stay?" he said calmly, looking up at Cerise hopefully.

Cerise gave him a sympathetic look. Now that the stranger had had the chance to explain himself, she fully agreed with Dixie. This was not an evil dog. As a matter of fact, though she barely knew him, she already felt like she could trust him. But she noticed the tenseness of her pack, and she knew she would have to keep them happy as well. She gave a curt nod. "I will give you a week to prove you are safe. You are to be guarded by a patrol at all times. Is that clear?"

Nodding, the stranger smiled up at the Alpha dog. "O' course, ma'am," he replied. Shuffling his paws somewhat shyly, he looked around, wondering who would be guarding him--or more accurately, guarding the pack from him, he corrected inwardly. He smiled, though it held a note of sadness. This was his burden, looking the way he did.
