Harli woke up, shivering in the cold. She felt something cold, like water, around her. Then in occurred to her. My water broke. "J-Jargo.." Harli whimpered, nudging him. Her voice quavered.
Jargo looked at her. "Yes, Harli?" he asked.

(Good thing he was on the other side of her! LOL!)
(LOL!)

"The pups." she whined, scrambling out of the nest.

Raven looked at Cerise and Minty and said, "Hey, what's going on? What did miss affla do?" Her voice was full of confusion as she had not been paying much attention to the pair's conversation and was now thoroughly puzzled. Padding up, she looked between Minty and Cerise. "Cers... Ceire.... Cer... Cerise," she said, trying her hardest to pronounce the Alpha's name. Before the she-dog could respond, Raven launched into the second part of her sentence, her little brown eyes filled with something like wonder. "Can I be a Sentry like mommy or daddy?" she asked.


Dixie reached down and grabbed onto the she-dog's reddish scruff, but despite the she-dog's light weight, she was still quite heavy and just as Dixie got a good grip on the dog's neck, she felt herself being towed downwards, towards the pond. With a howl of fright, she let go of the dog's scruff and staggered backwards. Russet, just in time, leaped forwards and his teeth locked loosely on the she-dog's right ear. Adjusting his grip, he used all his might to hold her up. Her fur was sodden with water, adding to the weight, and the ground was slick. Dixie held the nape of the she-dog's neck in her mouth, now, and together the twosome began hauling her up the side of the strange pond, their steps matching perfectly.

Finally, they had her mostly on land. Panting, they dropped her gently on the ground. Dixie looked at Mystery and gave a quick nod. "She's safe," she barked. Russet collapsed on the ground beside the she-dog, panting. "Well, she's... I guess she's in good hands now, huh?" he said.

Cerise gave Raven a warm smile, looking down at the pup. "You and your sister, you both have so much potential. You can be anything you want to be," she replied wisely. Then, she nudged the two pups toward the exit. "Go on. It sounds like Jiyaken is getting worried."

And sure enough, as those words left her mouth, Jiyaken's voice came echoing from the junkyard below. "Mint! Rav'in! Where'd ya lassies get to now?" Minty heard this and was on her paws immediately. "Oh cats! C'mon!" she barked to Raven, and without waiting for her sister, she darted out the door of the den and headed down the junk pile toward their pupsitter.



Mystery hauled himself out of the unnatural pond just behind the she-dog that Dixie and Russet had taken from his grip. There was a clank, and the 'portable stairs' from the human's garage fell down into the water from the force of Mystery's last step up out of there. He sighed with relief, panting with the effort he had just exerted in climbing with that she-dog. Then, he looked toward her. She was clearly starving, and he wasn't sure if there was anything they could do, but he knew that her best chances were with the medical dog, Saffron.

Scarlet approached, surveying the scene before nodding in determination. "Mystery, are you steady enough to carry her back to the junkyard?" she asked, looking toward the green-eyed dog. He nodded silently in response. "Then I want you and Dixie to take her to Saffron," she finished, offering them a smile. It was pretty much permission for them to go home. Scarlet knew they would be eager to get back to their pups after this exciting first day back on the job.

Scarlet then looked to Mantis and Russet, and motioned for them to follow. "We'll finish the patrol, okay?" she said, waiting for Russet to show he had caught his breath after dragging the she-dog out of the pond.

Dixie nodded to Scarlet and looked at Mystery. "Feel up to doing this again?" she joked.

Harli cracked a huge grin, nodding excitedly. Ina few hours they would have pups.
Jargo licked her happily. "That's wonderful,"
Harli smiled, but felt a sinking feeling in her heart. What if she had hurt them when she ate the chocolate? Her thoughts were interrupted by a painful wave in her belly. She put her head on Jargo's shoulder, closing her eyes.
