Quote: Harli snapped awake, leaving her pups and rushing over. Her eyes grew wide, seeing the young male and his pup. "Jargo! Who is this?!" she cried, just staring.
The tiny pup mewled weakly, her voice small and raspy. She was obviously malnourished, because her tiny ribs stuck out in plain view. The same was with the father.
Harli's instincts took over, and at once she picked up the pup and took it to her nest. She tucked it under her fur, looking at Jargo with a horrified expression. "What do you think happened to them?" she asked, her voice trembling. She looked at the male dog's wounds, deep and fresh, wondering what on earth could have caused them.
"I don't know who this is... I don't know what happened..." Jargo replied quietly. He lowered his nose towards the dog's face and crooned, "Helloo?"
The male dog's eye lids opened, then his silver eyes focused on Jargo. His pupils dilated in shock. "Who are you?!" he croaked, letting his ears fall back.

Jargo's upper lips curled fully and he lunged at the dog, snarling with rage. "I'll kill this mutt!" he roared. "Son of that Willow Pack mutt!"

Harli's voice rang loud and sharp from the den. "Jargo! Stop! He's injured. We might be able to get things out of 'im." she glared angrily at Smoke, who only returned a helpless gaze. "Drag him to the back and feed him." she said, hoping Jargo wouldn't get mad at her orders.

Jargo snarled at her. "Don't forget that I'M the dominant on, here!" he snarled to her. He still hadn't let go of his deep seated hatred for Rex. And his arrogance. He dragged Smoke by the scruff into the den. "We have no food," he said to Harli. "Now what's your brilliant plan?" he added with a hint of sarcasm. He was grumpy because he was tired.

Harli nodded, looking down at the pups suckling at her belly. She let her ears droop, clearly telling Jargo that she wasn't going to say any more. Smoke whined slightly as he felt Jargo's teeth pierce his thin pelt, then looked up at him at him timidly. "Jargo... sir... I... um.... I don't know if this will make it better, but Abbie was the mother of that pup." he motioned with his torn nose to Harli's nest. "Sir.. and ma'm, I'll do anything to keep her safe. I'd even take a bite to the throat, just please... I want her to live."

Jade looked a little upset and drooped his ears a bit before nodding and walking after Raven, who was already scuttling off towards the direction of the den, trying to avoid any further scolding.

Dixie grinned and looked at Mystery. Then she slid her back underneath the she-dog's build and rose to her feet and looked at her mate, eyes gleaming. "Well, c'mon, then," she chuckled. "Boy, the memories this brings back!" she added. "Back before we were mates, and we were just... Kinda like friends..."

Friends? Ha! Mystery chuckled a bit as well at the thought. It wasn't the word he would have used to describe their relationship before moving to Chroma pack and becoming mates. Still, he nodded. "I wonder how old Swampy's doing," he said, his voice a sigh as he did. There was something about that old dog that he sure did miss... Saffron had her moments, but no one laid down the cold, hard truth like Swampson did.

Mystery began to walk, keeping his steps carefully timed with Dixie's. They were much more in tune with one another than they had been before, or at least he thought so. He focused on watching where he was going rather than trying to watch her footsteps, and all seemed to be going smoothly.

But then, just as they were leaving the human place, he thought he saw something familiar out of the corner of his eye. He hesitated, his steps falling out of line now. He glanced in the direction of the familiar something, though by then it was gone--or maybe it hadn't been there in the first place. With that crossing his mind, he instead looked to his paws. "Oops," he said in a laugh, realizing how off balance he had gotten. Returning to the rhythm of Dixie's pawsteps he continued on, though his expression betrayed his thoughts. Something nagging in the back of his mind told him that what he thought he saw, what he knew he did see, could be of importance...

(*Gasp* Another mystery plot?!)

Dixie glanced at him and gave him a questioning look. "Why'd you go all funky?" she asked, before snorting in laughter at her own statement. "I mean, what happened? You were all off-balance; looked like you were gonna fall over!"

((MAAAAAAYBEEEEEEE.))

Mystery looked to Dixie suddenly, nearly throwing himself off balance again. What he had seen... That familiar face... He didn't want Dixie and the pups getting involved. "...Nothing, I'm just worn out from that rescue mission," he lied quickly, forcing himself to smile. "I guess I got a little out of shape while the pups were growing up." He gave her a reassuring nudge, then looked ahead again.

They were nearly at the junkyard already. Sighing with relief, he hefted the weight of the she-dog onto his back fully, looking to Dixie again. "Why don't you go ahead and let Saffron know we're coming? I can get her the rest of the way," he suggested, giving her a warm look.
