Saffron nodded and said, "Ah, that's a problem easily solved, indeed!" Turning to a corner of the den, she lifted a fair-sized chunk of bread and meat, what was apparently half a turkey sandwich, and said, "Here you go." before dropping it at the she-dog's paws. It was clear that she selfless and that she wanted to take care of the dog, for that sandwich was to be her lunch--but not anymore!

Coal nodded a casual yet respectful hello to Cerise and looked at his submissive she-dog companion. Flora's head hung low and her blue eyes never blinked as she stared straight ahead. It was clear that she was thinking. Finally, she said, "I don't know..."

Wren looked to the strange substance at her paws, some sort of spongy shell around pale innards. She had never seen such a thing before! But as the scent of the turkey sandwich hit her nose, the starved dog in her came out. She didn't care what it was--if it was food, she was eating it! And she wolfed down the sandwich in the blink of an eye, panting hungrily afterward.

Wren licked her maw and sat back up, looking sheepishly to Saffron. "...Thank you," she said hesitantly, feeling a bit better now that she had food in her stomach. Her wooziness was fading, and though her muscles still felt weak from the starvation she had gone through, she felt rejuvenated. She was ready to go!

...But she knew she was at Saffron's mercy as to whether she could leave or not. Her ears drooping a bit, her golden gaze yet again fell on the medical dog, and she shuffled her paws meekly, occasionally glancing from Saffron to the door and back.

Cerise was momentarily thrown by the she-dog's apparent indifference to the situation. Her brow furrowing, she paused a moment, and then spoke once more, though her tone of voice made clear her confusion at the she-dog's answer. "Are you lost?" she asked, glancing to Coal and then back to this stranger. She had realized by then that the she-dog was blind, and this didn't particularly bother her. Chroma pack was strong and had enough dogs within it to make up for the charity cases they seemed to be receiving lately. That was assuming this blind she-dog wanted to stay, of course.

Quote: Saffron watched the she-dog, her smile unwavering yet warm, and she sat down slowly so as not to disturb Wren. Then, upon seeing her anxious, nervous body language, she tensed a bit. She watched Wren's eyes dart from the threshold of the den then back to her. Clearing her throat, Saffron shook her head. "I'm afraid I can't let you leave; you're in too bad a condition to go roving about the streets!"

The question seemed to disturb the poor dog, for Flora began to tremble and a small tear trickled down the side of her cheek. "... Y-yes..." she finally admitted, her voice wavering. "And I want a home. My best friend... She was my guide. When we were chased by some bigger, meaner dogs--called Jargoans, I think they were--we ran towards our only chance of safety: the road. My friend told me to cross the street, that she'd be right beside me, so I did. All I heard was the sound of loud roaring creatures rushing by! And then... I heard a scream or agony... My sister! She'd gotten hit!"

Celeste and Coal both gasped in unison. What a sad story this young she-dog bore! But a sudden voice from the small gathering spoke up. It was Sienna. "Why would Jargoans be tis far out?" she said softly, her brown furrowed with wrinkles of thought. Shaking her head, she walked up to the she-dog and nodded to her. "You have a sad tale, dear," she said. "My sympathy--as well as the pack's, I'm sure!--lies with you."

Wren hesitated, then stood suddenly, though she made no further movements toward the door. "I must find my friend," she said almost pleadingly. Her legs shook a bit, clearly quite weak still from the starvation she had experienced. A rational dog could see that she was in no condition to be off on her own--but Wren was far from rational in these unfamiliar and frightening surroundings.

Cerise listened calmly, sparing just a glance for Sienna as she stepped forward. Chroma pack had never had any issues with the Jargoans, though word around the city was that they had a new leader now. If this leader was trying to take her on, then Cerise would not hesitate to call her pack to arms. They had had peace for many years, plenty of time to rest and recover from the battles of their past. They would be ready.

She nodded to the blind she-dog without thinking about it, clearing her throat and speaking afterward to make up for her mistake. "Chroma pack welcomes you to our ranks if this is where you'd like to call home." Her voice was warm, though her expression was a bit somber. Looking troubled, her gaze moved to Sienna, recalling the recommendation that Saffron had made for this she-dog. She would be able to prove herself now. "Sienna, put together some patrols to make sure our borders are clearly marked. I want to be sure any Jargoans know that they are trespassing in a powerful pack's territory if they ever come back."

Quote: Saffron shook her head firmly. "No," she said sternly. "I'm sorry, dear, but you are in no condition to go romping all over the city." Her brow furrowing in confusion, she added, "Where is your friend, anyways?"

Sienna thought for a moment, and her golden-eyed gaze held a look of utter surprise, assumedly at Flora's story, that she and her sister had been chased into the street by a group of Jargoan thugs. But why were they all the way out in the city, of all places? This made no sense to the young she-dog. Dipping her head in a respectful nod in reply to Cerise's order, she gathered Celeste and Russet, as well as a few other dogs, and marched out of the ring of spectators.

Stopping at one border, she nodded to Celeste and Russet, and they began to mark it, leaving a warning that clearly told the Jargoans to steer clear if they knew what was good for them.

Wren opened her maw as if to protest, but closed it again when Saffron asked about her friend. She hesitated. It wouldn't hurt to tell the medical dog, but... Mulling it over in her mind, she sighed, then nodded. "Far, far away. Home." A frown grew on her maw and she looked sadly to Saffron. "Humans came. They took me to this strange place." She motioned around the den, though she really meant the entire city. "He was left," she concluded. Her golden eyes fell on the door again hopefully. If she could just find somewhere to call from, she was sure her friend would hear her.

Cerise watched Sienna quietly until the she-dog was out of sight. Her promptness was promising and Cerise liked the empathy and concern that the she-dog had for others, but the Alphess didn't want to take her decision about filling the rank of Beta lightly. Her eyes moved to Coal. "Make our newest packmate at home," she said gently, motioning to Flora. Then, she began the climb up to her own den. She had a lot to think about.

Quote: Saffron nodded. "I see," she said quietly, her voice hinted with sympathy. "ANd, your friend, is he a dog?" she added questioningly, as she was beginning to get the feeling that it wasn't, as Wren was suggesting by her squawking.

Sienna had, by now, returned to the heart of Chroma Pack territory and had left the patrol to other assigned duties. Now she knew this was the moment to ask her Alpha about something important. She walked towards the Alpha Den, climbing up it, silent and steady. Finally, she reached the top of the den. Her paws swishing lightly against each other, she entered it. The den was dark, lit only by the fading sun that shone through the entrance. Her paw accidentally knocked a glass bottle over, causing a momentary period of clatter as it rolled down an inclement and bowled into a pile of cans.

Wincing at the sound, Sienna stood somewhat embarrassed at the front of the den, facing Cerise. Dipping her head in a small bow, she looked at her paws and waited for the Alpha to speak.
