Saffron looked at the pup in surprise for a moment before saying, "Oh, Minty, hello there." in a somewhat flustered voice. Her eyes briefly darted outside the den, then back to Minty. For a moment, she had thought the shadowy dog she'd seen following her was the one whom had been standing there. (Are the pups, like, teenagers, yet? Hopefully so...)A small pair of green eyes blinked innocently up at Saffron. "...Hi," Minty said somewhat shyly, glancing from the medical dog to the stranger, Wren. She had come to see what Saffron's duties were like, but her interest had moved to the she-dog who talked strangely and behaved so differently. How curious, this stranger was... "May I come in?" the pup asked politely, grinning innocently up at Saffron.
Wren stared at the pup briefly, then looked to Saffron as if speechless. It was but a fledgeling... Wren had let her unfamiliar surroundings make her far too jumpy. Her golden gaze on Saffron, she waited for the medical dog to reply to the young she-dog.
Mystery stared at Dixie for an instant. He had been careful to take a swim through a pond on his way home, though apparently that hadn't worked to remove his brother's scent from his fur. Dixie looked so disgusted--she hated Teal, after all! Mystery couldn't have her mad at him. "What do you mean? Teal is--not around anymore!" he said quickly, glancing at Raven and Jade as he censored the end of his statement. His tone and body language disguised his lie easily. Perhaps he had spent too much time with Teal... He still had his suspicions about the blue-eyed dog and hated that this was causing him to be so deceptive with his mate, but... The timing wasn't right here.
Glancing around the den quickly, Mystery sighed. "She's probably out bothering someone again," he replied, hoping to change the subject. "I'll go find her," he offered, seeing his chance to leave before Dixie pressed any further about Teal.
Dixie looked at him. "But... This scent?" she said, confused. She looked up at him. "Then... Who's scent is this?" she asked, her eyes filled with question. Surely he couldn't be visiting another pack... No one in Chroma Pack had this scent... And it smelled so much like Teal...
Dixie's ears drooped as she gave up trying to figure out what was going on. Her head swirling with sad and worried thoughts, she nodded to Mystery and plodded back into her nest, curling up and looking at him as he left. She looked down at her other two pups lovingly, her confusion slowly leaving. Then she noticed that Jade was awake and blinking up at her. The little pup's eyes made Dixie think of Mystery. She began to feel sad and questioning all over again. What was going on? Why was he holding back? Why was he so secretive all of a sudden?
Then a new thought made her jump: could he possibly be seeing another she-dog? Of course he wouldn't... right? Her imagination running away with her, Dixie began to picture Mystery slinking off to visit another she-dog. Why? Perhaps this female was prettier... Perhaps more loyal? Of course! Mystery didn't trust Dixie because of what she'd done! That had to be it! Dixie thought about it some more, and slowly remembered her mate's loving gaze as he had awoken her. Slowly, her worry that he was in love with someone else began to chip away. He couldn't possibly love someone else; that loving gaze said so!
(Hope that wasn't too controlling on Mystery...)
