Swampson awoke suddenly with a groan, his entire body aching. His eyelids fluttered initially, then flew open as he started to remember what had happened. He lifted his head and looked around. He was completely alone, not a sight or sound of dogs nearby. The light scent of blood was around him, as if there had been fighting, but... Somehow, he had been ignored all that time. Slowly and painfully, he sat up, wincing the entire time and taking a moment to recover.

That Endigo fellow... Where had he gone? Swampson vaguely remembered talk of dogs wanting him dead. Is that what had happened? Drat, the old dog thought. Endigo was his only hope of finding his daughter. Now Swampson was alone at night in a place he had never been before. He knew not where to go to find a place where he would be welcomed. He supposed all he could do was find a sheltered place to rest for the night. He sighed lightly.

Dragging himself to his feet, he limped up a slope toward a small grove of trees and bushes. Looked like a good enough shelter for him. He glanced around once more. No signs of life. No signs even of death. Shrugging it off, he stumbled into the bushes and curled up in a dip between the roots of a tree. Resting his chin on one of the roots, he let his eyelids droop. He'd have to set off in the morning, he supposed. Better get rest if he was going it alone. His eyes fell closed, and he soon dozed off there.

((There, I feel better now. ))

Rex was taken aback. He turned to leave, feelings hurt.

Endigo saw his moment. He slunk around Buck and ran into the open. Then he grinned at Buck. "Jargo's gonna kill you when he finds out what you've done!" he snarled.

"Indeed. You will be leading the pack into battle, while I deal with the new alpha." Jargo had heard of the new alpha.

With all his might, Delano pulled at Stone's muzzle, not minding if he tore into his foe's flesh. Eventually, with hardly a noise to show he was in pain, he pulled Stone's fangs from his chest, then used what was left of his strength to toss Stone away from him. His teeth bared still, he stood there and panted with the effort. Night had fallen fully, and with the moon casting the only light, all colors seemed muted except for the bright red gleam in Delano's eyes and the deep crimson shine off of the blood on both of the dogs' wounds.

Delano tilted his head slightly. His enemy was... Thanking him? And that seemed like enough to snap him out of his insane bloodlust. He suddenly stood tall, his maw closing and his usual grim look crossing his face. He had forgotten something.

"Layla..."

The name slipped from his maw so quietly that Stone may not have even heard it. His mission--he had let it slip to the back of his mind in all of the excitement. He needed to find Rex and find out where the pack's hostage had gotten to. Though in the back of his mind, the word 'kill' was being chanted in a voice unfamiliar to his own, he shook it away and looked to Stone. "You live. This time." And he didn't give Stone the chance to respond. Silently as ever, he dashed off, disappearing into the night.

Rex heard Delano coming. He knew he was in for it, now. He knew exactly why Delano was coming; why else would Delano appear before him in the dead of the night? Rex tensed, ready for any attack.
