Melanie's eyes danced. "Yes!" She whispered, her voice still weak. "Your mate? Oh Rex, yes! Banner would approve." She said her eyes glued to the tiny black pup nursing beside her belly.

Rex nearly collapsed with joy. His legs felt like jelly, his heart flew, and he felt as though he could leap to the sky. "You really think he would?" Rex said.

"No, Harli, they're strong! Much stronger than us! Much as I hate to admit it about those sniveling mutts, they're stronger than us." Jargo howled. "I need to go kill something..." he growled as he stomped off.

Harli watched him go, her lip curled in disgust. "We could have killed them all, Jargo!! We could have!" She howled after him, then turned and stalked back to camp.

Harli watched him go, her lip curled in disgust. "We could have killed them all, Jargo!! We could have!" She howled after him, then turned and stalked back to camp.

Jargo spotted a large blackbird. It's wing was broken. Normally, he wouldn't bring down food that was injured, who knows what might have injured it, such as a rabid animal?

But now he didn't care. He toyed about with the bird, flipping it about and tossing it around. Finally, he killed it and brought it back to the den.

"He told you to tell me to find a new mate, to love and protect my pups. Rex, I think he was hoping you would." Melanie smiled, and licked his cheek.

Harli pulled away. She curled her lip; "Not soon Jargo, then! Did you see how injured he was?! Or were your eyes not working right?!" She spat in his face, then walked towards their den.
