Surviving Another Depression.......What Would We Need?

We have been stockpiling for awhile now, and have started having friends asking us what they should focus on getting. Also, if we can do this anyone can, we have made this a priority, and we have a very small income below poverty level and three kids. Not bragging, just lettin gyou know it is possible.

Food: Non perishibles, focus on vital vitamins and protein.
Orange and Apple juice (vitamin C)
Carrots (vitamin A)
Spinach (Vitamin A, and just very good for you)
Cheap soup, broth, and tuna, (Protein)

The idea behind food is not to have enough to keep you alive for an extended period, but to tide you over untill you can have enough from hunting and gethering. There is no way it is really feasable for anyone on a limited income to have two years worth of food.

Water: We are aiming at a gallon a day for two months. We buy it from walmart in the boxes, four to a box, for about $2.50 each. It is very easy to store and transport in the boxes.

Ammunition: If you have guns, extra ammo could keep you alive if you live in any kind of rural or suburban area where there would be wild game. The more the better.

We are buying alot of heirloom seeds this year. You want seeds that are open pollenated, so you can save your own seeds. We are focusing on things that meet two main criteria: Things that grow well in this area, and things we can store without processing.

For us, that means a lot of squash, especially winter squash. Also potatoes, sweet potatoes, etc. We are also considering things that we can dry, and food for the chickens and rabbits during the winter.

Soap. Salt. Bandages and first aid supplies. Books on edible native plants.

Dreams? A water purifier, gutters for a rainwater collection system. Several more hunting and self defense rifles and more ammo, a supply of antibiotics, ( I know that is not going to happen, but it could save lives...) Solar panels, etc etc, etc..... Pipe dreams for us, but even so we are better prepared them most people we know.

This is one of the best stories I have heard in a long time. Thank you ! Maybe we would all be better off if something happened.... not that I want it to, but it makes you think.

Seriously, it just hit me, I take Zoloft everyday and have for 2 years now. Without it I am seriously suicidal.
How on earth can one "stockpile" prescription medications? There have got to be others on bloodpressure meds, heart meds, diabetics who need insulin, etc...
What on earth will we all do?

That stopped me in my tracks. What a scary thought.

Seriously, this is IMPORTANT!! Does anyone have any ideas for this? Antibiotics could save many lives, and painkillers are important in case of emergency. What about them?

And for all the people we all know whose lives really do depend on their medications, what can we do? I have a lot of family who would very likely die if they couldnt get their meds.... I am sure we all do. Is there anything we can do?

ETA I just realized I put in THREE posts at the same time.... sorry! You can all slap me now...
