Surviving Minnesota!

Okay I just got back from a long lunch at home. I got caught up watching chicken TV with the chicks. I got out my camera. Dixie and Loretta of course got the most shutter time. The other two are fun in the flower garden as well. I will get them loaded when I get back home or this evening. Ahhhhh Chicken TV.....

Sorry to hear of the loss.....I think you need to borrow my neighbor and his coon hounds for a few nights. It is fun to hear the coon hounds go to work but it is a scary kinda fun. Each spring they get one or two coons out of the pasture adjacent to our house and coop. Those hounds don't give up until the owner calls them off they are ambitious little things.

I've always wanted some coon hounds!

Check this out . Every year in Bath Illinois they have a redneck fishing contest for these Asian carp . No hook and line fishing . Just crazy flying carp .

Please add putting my hand into dirty muddy water hoping to have a fish eat it on my list of things I will not be doing....

I spent time with my CLBs again tonight. They are really not as flighty as I originally thought. Some of them come right up to me, even if they will not let me touch them. I am still thinking Andy will be my show bird and main breeder next year.

I think Punnet screwed up when he made the CLB's. He should have just made white sports. They are so graceful and beautiful looking, the crests are nice and of course I expect the blue eggs.

I lost my last of last years CX hens last night. I have some pictures of Bert Jr's babies. One is so ugly he is cute..

I have given them free will feed again. I was withholding feed, but they do not seem to be eating and gaining like the CX's do. Maybe I have the cross I want! The breasts are not the size of CX's but the legs and thighs are larger and they stand taller.

And lastly, I let the baby turkeys out for about an hour this morning. Momma was way over excited so I locked them back up. JJ was a cool Uncle, these are the only ones I have left that are not his kids.

I know I haven't been on this thread hardly at all, but I need to spread the word to you folks too if you don't mind....

I had to make the tough decision to start eliminating some breeds from my flock and reducing the others. With all that is going on with my son, it is becoming more and more difficult to take care of so many. He has been in and out of the ER and the hospital over the last couple of months. He was finally diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder in early April. I say 'finally' because we had been seeing that something was not as it should be with him for some time before that. This means trying to get the right medication, counseling, plus lots of other outpatient care for the next few months.
So,....
If anyone is thinking about 'needing' (

) more chickens, let me know. The adult White Silkies are spoken for already, but I have a lot of bantams chicks and juvies. I am hatching a batch of Buckeyes that I don't want to keep too since I have more than enough from that rooster who sired them.

Minnie - so sorry to hear about your son. Went through the same stuff. Years and years and then found out misdiagnosed which was a blessing and not. Started all over, different meds, very frustrating because its so difficult to help. You are in my prayers.
