Surviving Minnesota!

Oh Ralphie I would dig a hole and throw those taters in, they just might grow something and you can't leave them on the kitchen counter forever!

I thought potatoes had to be planted by Good Friday in order to get something decent. ?????

Ralphie, I don't know that anyone other than you or I know where Adolph is. Did you happen to notice the new building being constructed next to Stokke's market and gas stop? It might well be a place you would stop into at some time, as they will surely be selling Mike's Hard Lemonade there.

I have not had much to write lately, so I just read the posts and go on my way.

The self given shot to prevent anaphylactic shock is administered with what is known as an Epipen. It is interesting to see one used, and I am glad I have no allergies which cause need for one.

Ugh! and they need to be used on diabetics too! By the time they are used the person doing the suffering doesn't care about that needle.

Beings we are speaking of Siggie's imminent demise from bad sushi. I have to tell you I almost died yesterday from some "fish soup thingy" at a place near UMD. I ordered this thing thinking I was getting a variety of fish and seafood on a plate. I got a bowl of fish soup, with shrimp, crab and mussels in it. By the time we got from Mount Royal to Adolph I was sick. My daughter assured me food poisoning does not come on that fast. I am not so sure. Luckily I lived to tell about it and feel great today...

EJB is correct about the Adolph store if you happen to be going by it on Hwy 2, stop and get some meats, they are great. It is one of those places I could just sit in and soak up the odors of the smoked meat. It is so good in there.

I do not know of anyplace with better meats, but that place off the beaten path in Isanti comes close...

Wanna bet?? It has gotten to be a competition with Judy. I think she is waiting to see how long they will sit there before I throw them out. I am waiting to see how long I can leave them for before she throws it out.
At the rate you are upsetting Judy this week you might want to consider digging that hole a little bigger for the potatoes. Then ensure they have a proper sun and rain covering because I think you are going to need it.

Erli: I'm so sorry about Edna. That Sour Crop business has ALWAYS scared me. ***Knock on wood*** I haven't had it in the flock. Although I've had a few gluttonous birds. or I've seen others pull a long blade of grass out of a mouth/throat. Thank goodness for timing of good helpful flock mates. I think it's luck or timing. What a tough way to lose a bird. That's for sure.

Oh I'm so distracted here at work...I really want to go hang out at the coop / yard and get my chicken projects a going.

I need to paint. And the other night I couldn't sleep and brainstormed about how to fix up my nesting boxes in the coop to give me better out door access. The top lid is rotting underneath the shingles and it's always so heavy. I'm going to make smaller drop down doors I think that will allow for easier clean outs and use gravity to help open the door. I've thought of insulating those nesting areas as well to help reduce cracked eggs. But it may just be my silver bubble wrap to get that job done. I don't like the idea of lining the boxes with that stuff though. I like keeping it homey looking in the nest boxes. It's the girls' private time in those boxes. LOL. You know what I mean. They sit in there and reflect, lay their little gifts to me. I want everything zen for them. Not ....silver Bubble wrap.

Well, I have thought about lining my nest boxes with the silver stuff and then staple gunning a thin board over that so it still looks 'woody'. So much warmer but then my coop is drafty.

Sorry you lost her Erlibrd - its a fact of life with chickens. Still . . . . .

I think we could all go in on that fathers day gift for Ralphie. I would change it to a white pick up.

Watching four kayacks going down the river today. Good day for that! The flies aren't bad yet and neither are the misquitos.

Naw, my old beater truck is good for 30 more years...I need one of those things way more than a new truck..

With the hot weather on it's way....I am thinking about freezing some fruit and veggies in a couple of ice block things. Anybody try this before....what size containers would you recommend. I'm thinking sour cream size containers, possibly a couple of ice cube trays. Thoughts?
