Surviving Minnesota!

My 27 year old cousin was taking care of her horse and she saw this cat chasing a duckling so she took it home. She teaches some animal science classes at NDSU so she was trying to find someone with ducklings to take it, and she remembered I just hatched some out so now I have it!
I'm going to keep one of the ducklings I hatched out for company, or see if my hen with 2 chicks will take it.

I'm wondering what breed it is, it is next to a small rubber duck in this picture.

It is most likely a wild duck breed, I was thinking maybe wood duck

Definitely wood duck, I found a whole bunch of wood duck ducklings without a mom, I wanted to take them home but when I got back they were gone.
They look a lot like mallards but they are smaller and the head stripes are a little different.
I wish I had it :) keep us posted!

It was peeping so I brought it in my bed, it then proceeded to snuggle in my hair, so I made it a nest in my blanket, it's sleeping now.
It's really friendly for being a wild duck though, the wild gosling I rescued was crazy

BC, so sorry she did not return. Glad you found some chicks for mama so she isn't so sad. I'm glad they have taken to her. Lovely flowers!

Ralphie, Ethel and her chicks are so cute!

I love layers, what a cutie patootie duckling!

Jerry, I have never seen the Himalayan Blackberry in Minnesota or Wisconsin. It appears to be a real nuisance plant.

BC sorry about your bird problems, but it comes with the territory and one learns to deal with it? The photo od the Dianthus is very nice.

Ralphie, do you have a running count of the number of Chickens, Turkeys and Guineas which you have hatched this season?

Ed thank you and Ralphie too. It does go with the chickening world to take losses. I've been spoiled-lucky more like and then counting on a bird to grace a flock... Well high hopes dashed is the frustration I suppose. I slept in today. Birds are out though now Dixie with the brooders.
My lawn is way too long. Need to get that done along with domestic duties.
DH is at pacesetters with kids in collegeville for his Father's Day. Happy Father's Day to all my favorite men posters on here!

My first tomatoes . Large cherry type . Slicers a long time away .

Jewel black raspberries .

Royalty purple . I use them at this stage .They do not get a purple tint until over ripe .
Harvested my Shogun turnip seed . Good deer turnip . Also greens for humans . Root is too strong for my taste .

My multi graft pear tree is really growing .

Turnip seed before cleaning .
