Surviving Minnesota!

Is stealing eggs at the fair that common?

You will get kicked out of an open show for taking eggs from someone's cage. It is just bad manners. The funny thing with the 4-H shows though, is that those are just pullet eggs and if someone wants to steal them to hatch, they won't get a champion from one of those ones, I don't think. So, the yolks on them!

As long as you aren't caught... I had to yell at someone when I saw them taking eggs out of a sultan trio cage. The person was then escorted out

They're the smallest kind of quail, their real name is Chinese painted quail. I would keep them in a coop with a heat lamp or some poeple have them in their house like a parrot kinda. I'm trying to convince mom to let me have it in the house.
There is a quail page on FB that I have been on, Quail Enthusiasts, and they have eggs for sale all the time.

Sex Link EEs would be wonderful so I could cull the little cockerels at hatch and be done with them at hatch. I rarely keep any of them for myself, and I could probably sell every EE pullet if I hatched 50 every week.

I do have a handsome rosecomb EE cockerel I am going to keep and breed to the Black Ameraucanas I have still this year. That should pretty up the pen a little.

I hate killing little chicks. But I agree a person could sell every EE pullet they hatch. I had to stop selling EE pullets just to assure myself of enough breeding stock for next year.

The person I was talking to on the other thread said they sold the boys as straight run at an auction, which thoroughly ticked me off,, I almost got double secret probation again it ticked me off so badly.

Minnie I can sell you some of my pre-sexed EE eggs, I have got Ivies needle on a string down to 99.9% reliability....

That's so stupid! If someone did that to me I would tell everyone not to buy from them!! I'm just going to sell my chicks as SRs

I am actually headed towards chicks I cannot sex for the same reason. The Camp Bus will be overloaded with Creamers this fall.

I have a math problem. I just went out and I can only find 8 turkeys. I have 9 as we all know,

I collected eggs from the layer coop. I have around 70 chickens in there. 22 hens and about 50 pullets, half the pullets are laying now.

Now write those numbers down as they become part of the math problem....

I picked 5 eggs off a nest on the floor, 4 pullet eggs and 1 real egg............. I picked 1 egg off the roof of the ICU unit. ... and 2 eggs out of the nest boxes....

Are there more eggs? Any ideas where they could be? Are my hens just free loading?

That is okay, I use the pointy end and round end method when I really want to get scientific!

I had to do the same. I think I have 3 to save for myself, but I am going to run one more hatch to replace the ones I lost in the heat too. I hate hatching so late in the season, but I have that brooder house that is pretty toasty if I turn on a heat lamp for them.

People who intentionally deceive buyers, they have a special place in a very hot location for them. That irritates me more than people who are just ignorant about what they are dealing.

Ralphie: I did not eat those toad stools. I threw them out. They seemed like a false gill but I'm not a hundred percent sure so will not eat them.

I'm taking a nap now in the camper.

I think s with anything in chickening we learn what works and what doesn't. Sexable chicks seem good in theory but, yes... Great for the buyer not so great for the seller.

Fun to read about the fair shenanigans.
