Surviving Minnesota!

OK couple of questions for my far north friends . Do tomatoes volunteer in your gardens ? Interested in knowing if seeds survive your winters . Second does anyone grow fall bearing raspberries . Interested to know if any ripen the fall crop .

I've had tomatoes volunteer every year for the last 8 years. Cherry varieties mostly, but one year I had a variety called stupice which is a medium small early fruiting variety that came back. I'd still have them today if the family actually liked them but they're pretty bland, mostly watery, and not much tomato taste. As far as the raspberries I'm looking into a fall variety and everbearing as well. Curios to know what others have experienced

Thanks for all the responses . I was looking at Polana raspberry for a possible fall bearing one at the lake . Zone 3 and early it said . So it seems a good fit . I had heard some fall bearers would not ripen . I may scatter some large cherry tomatoes on my fall trip . Might get some tomatoes to grow without needing to be there to plant .

Hey am I the only one to notice all the unidentified mushrooms Ralphie fouund . Hmm and now Judy is ill . You using Judy as a tester ? Makes me wonder ..

We have a mixture of Poland and another type of early raspberry. I started by planting 2 of each. One of the earlies died the first year. The other three have been going strong. I pick raspberries from late July thru mid September. I have volunteer early girl tomatoes every year. I intentially leave the rotten ones out there. We live on rich black soil near St. Cloud area.

LOL>>

Naw, Judy is a terrible taste tester, she makes me eat a piece before she does.

For me finding an "unidentified" mushroom is more likely than finding and Identified one. I only know a few.

Yeah Janet will not try my know mushrooms let alone a new one . Yesterday I went to check on my pear crop. Only had 5 on my Ayers tree . First ones even . 1 pear left so I picked it . Critters got them . Must of liked them . Not a trace of them anywhere . I did get 6 of the Sugar sweet a couple of weeks ago . News had reports of 5 inches of rain in nearby areas . Close to 3 inches here by the time it quit .

Good luck

Minnie,,,,

We got hit by lightning here. I have no phone, TV or Internet, Just
my iPhone. So it is read and not type much time... We got some hail too.lots of lightning!
Sorry to hear of your power outage. I know that stinks.

I did pretty well, I placed at the top of everything I showed. I got Best English with a Dark Cornish hen too. That was a pleasant placing. There wasn't much to run against with any of the others, but since it is a fair and there are premiums, I won't feel too badly about that. The big winners were the usual breeders, but they have put their time, money and energy into it, so I won't complain. I left my older birds home because they were molting or beat up from breeding season, but the Cornish went anyway just because it is what it is, and getting them in perfect condition is a real pain unless they finish molt just in time for a Fall show.

There are some very nice birds there if any of you get a chance to get out and look, lots of nice bantams especially.

Gratz!!!

Way to go Minnie. I anticipated that you would do well. Did you learn anything regarding the Urch's mot being there? My recollection is that in years past they brought about half the birds which were exhibited there.
