Surviving Minnesota!

Today I am going to experiments with chickens and the Stockholm Syndrome.  I am going to try and confine my potential show birds and see if I can get them to identify with their captor, me.  I would hate to see them bite the judges.

I guess that means I have to decide in next days who is going to the show.

Might I suggest training with raspberries. We had good luck with that. Just make sure the lady judge is not wearing red nail polish.

it is barely noticable.

These pictures were taken on 9/3/2016, they will be the last pictures as we had to send them to freezer camp due to the sprigs.

Good morning all! Popping by 2 days ago made me realize how much I miss chatting with you all. I am going to try and keep up!

@duluthralphie how are the british gals? Mine are growing up into fine young hens. I ended up with 9 roosters that should have been ladies. I got my refund from hoovers and 8 of them will be headed to freezer camp this weekend. Several of them are quite mean and are lucky to have survived this long. Any tips on what to look for in the rooster that gets spared? obviously the demeanor is high on my list. other than that all I have is to pick the one that looks 'nicest'

You can laugh....I learned through first hand experience. I will no longer be asking for pedicures/Manicures for Mother's Day.

Darn, My birthday is coming and I wanted a manicure too!

We mixed our first batch of Chicken Feed. We used the prescribed recipe from Heims Mill with their concentrate. We mixed up 1 ton and are storing it in a grain bin with auger. I bring over 55 gallon Brute and fill. So far the chickens have devoured the new feed. I have 2 feeders, one with Heim's Mill layer pellets and one with our new feed and the feed mill feed is not being touched. We are sharing this ration with my father in law. Man did the John Deere grunt when we put the finest screen in the grinder mixer for the corn.

I am jealous of you again! I would love to be able to grind my own feed. Do you know what the cost will be per 100#?
