Quiet bunch today!
Tomorrow is the big shrooming day!
I have 2 SS roosters ready to go for the ride tomorrow. I decided to let Jerry decide which one he wants. They each have strong points and each weak points. (like all birds)..
Ivie about the eggs. I do not know of anyway to pasteurize them other than maybe radiation. I think heating eggs to 180 degrees is called hard boiled.
What I do is sterilize the eggs I hatch. I have to wash them in 115 degree water with 2 tablespoons of chlorine in a gallon of water. I rinse the eggs in 115 degree water under the faucet, I then dunk them in the chlorine solution rinse again and dunk in a second solution and rinse again. I only do this because JJ's Girlfriend says I have to, and JJ would rat me out if I did not do it. I cover and store the eggs on turntables until I put them in the incubator that is sterile in theory.
I do not do this with eggs we eat. I try to just sand them clean. If I do have to rinse them I use hot water and run it over them then dry the egg. The USDA says they should be disinfected, The Minnesota Ag Dept says they should be sanded and never given a water bath but use an egg cleaning solution if you are going to sell them. After you get your license to sell eggs legally.
Holms why would you not vaccinate calves? We had bangs here when I was a kid, I think only 2 cows were vaccinated the rest were forced to be destroyed after being branded with a big "B" on the necks. It was ugly. I know if I ever get cattle of any kind I will have to vaccinate them before I get them. As I understand it Bangs can live in the soil for over 100 years. While I am close to EJB's age I do not claim to be 100 like him.
Next Saturday the camp bus is stopping here to pick up a bunch of roosters. We are not doing a lot of them, we are going to let the nice Asian lady with the plastic lined trunk have most of them.
