Surviving Minnesota!

Good Morning Chickeners. SO GLAD to hear from you Ralphie. Thanks for the update and you are both on my mind. Praying a shield around you so you do not become sick also and that you know what to do for Judy before she needs anything or asks. And then for Judy for rest and a very quick recovery as I know how terrible it feels to be sick and feel like there is no light at the end of the tunnel.

Stay dry and stay warm today.

Thanks Ivie.
I'm not going to school today. I've still got a fever, didn't get a lot of sleep last night. I've got a JV tournament tomorrow in Hazen so I'm going to get a lot of sleep today so I can go to that

G' Morn.. The sun is shining but not us a lot of warmth. My handy-dandy Menards warmth measuring device was saying 34 this morning. I am thinking I might take the air conditioner out of the window. I wonder if any mushrooms survived the coolness. I would love to go check but I don't really have the time.

I checked my CLB white sports yesterday to pick one cockerel for the show. I am having a quandary. All the cockerels with crests have really poopy combs. They are crooked or have waves bigger than the hurricane does.

I have two I am picking from now, they are older and more impressive than the young ones. One has a nearly perfect comb, but it has no crest, maybe 2-3 feathers. The other has a great crest but the comb is a flop over wavy POS as Layers says...

BTW Get well..Layers..

So back to the sports. which way do I go? I know they are non-standard, I am just showing them because they are so pretty, but to be honest the non-crested one looks like a leg horn Page 137 of the SOP or a Lamona Page 66 of the SOP. He could be a winning leghorn and no one would know the difference. I will get pictures later today.

I have some great looking pullets, at least I think they are pullets with huge crests. I can see the trick is going to be getting a good comb/crest combo on the roosters. That is a challenge on all CLB's, or all of mine anyways.

I made progress with one of the PC cockerels yesterday, I can pick him up and he gives up and doesn't try to run or fight me. The other one I have given a name "wiener-head". He tries to run away from me in his cage and acts like a total knob. As my luck would have it "wiener-head" is the better looking rooster.

I hope to get some more cages done today and start sorting birds. I think some rooster will be going for the merry go round ride ( I got from Fleetfarm) tomorrow. If not I will do them on Monday.

Next week is bath week. that should be interesting.

Sounds like fun! If you need help butchering let me know. We may be able to help if we aren't busy.

Weiner head is such a nice name for a rooster Ralphie!:lol:

Both of my CLB pullets have waved combs too. But oh are there eggs pretty! Only one is laying still. I found the one with the off colored earlobes sitting on a warm, still wet, drying brown egg the other day... Do u think she is broken? Or do u think she quick hopped in the box after someone else laid? I'm thinking it's not hers but I have yet to find her eggs!

Thanks Ivie.

@duluthralphie @Minniechickmama I have some sad news. There is no possible way of us being able to make it up Friday. The earliest we could make it is Saturday morning. I just don't know how this year will work. We are for sure doing it next year as long as it's not canceled far AI or something again. We will for sure be there all day Saturday and in the morning Sunday and can help with take down if help is needed.
