Surviving Minnesota!

700

The chicks survived the night in the wood/fur shed in their brooder. The last chick died before it hatched. It looks like the yoke didn't fully absorb. It happens. I figure 9/11 fertilized eggs to hatch is pretty good for a first ever hatch.

I'll check the type of incubator. Life has been horribly busy lately. This morning the neighboring school had a student die while trying to get on the bus. I think he ran out after a dog and was hit.
Please remember to watch and be patient with buses. He was 7.

Afternoon all! Been a busy day at work but I'm looking forward to having tomorrow off. Going to enjoy the day out side watching chicken TV and siding my garage.
If things work out I will be going to pick up a new wood stove for my shop too. A nice one with a furnace blower and ducting!

It has been an effort to catch up on all the posts, as I have been without the internet for over a week. A hardware problem caused by the fine folks at Century Link. I do not like having to call their help line. They are not very professional or productive. the tech who finally came to fix things was very professional, but I suspect his productivity is not extremely high due to his desire to spread BS.

I fear that Ralphie's being away may have something to do with Judy not being well? Hope things get better and she is able to make a full recovery soon.

Ralphie would be interested to know that I have a puff ball the size of a softball at my place. It will not be eaten by humans however.

Sorry to read about Jerry having a sawyer who is so slow to get things done. Hope he is able to accomplish what he came up here to do.

I sat in the office during gym. I wouldn't let them call my parents. I am not skipping out on this game!
My back hurts really bad and my head still hurts. Better then this morning though

evening all! its been a good and frustrating evening on the farm. had our first on farm egg pickups tonight. two nice ladies came out tonight at different times to meet the flock and get eggs. between them and deliveries I off loaded 10 dozen eggs today. no need to go to the market this weekend!

The frustrating part is the starter on my old Allis bit the dust. pulled the starter rod and got half a crank, then nothing. started working through troubleshooting and found that power was getting there, but nothing was turning. pulled the starter out and opened it up to find the windings are nasty and worn and the bendix gear is half ground down. time to get a new one me thinks! the starter is probably original from the 40s or 50s and was built on a 6v system converted up to 12v probably 25 years ago. poor starter is all tired out haha

Hi all. Just a quick note.

Judy is doing "ok". She is pretty sick again. She is off work for a month, I think this time. She goes to a specialist in November. Also she has to see a cardiologist because of this thing screwing up her heart and ekg.

Between trying ti get ready for winter, hutch and taking care of Judy, I have not had time or desire to post or even read here.

We just got off the phone with out 5 year old Granddaughter. She has Grandparents day in Kindergarten tomorrow. Judy has to pass because of being contagious. I have decided I should too, just to be safe. I would hate to bring a bug to the kids or the new baby. You can just not be sure. We are taking all the precautions we can, cleaning and disinfecting everything all the time.

When I told her I couldn't come she was so disappointed and said "But its Grandparents day". I feel like a real loser now. Anyways, I should get going, Judy is needing something..

I am relieve to hear from you, as I am sure are the rest of the crew on here.
So sorry about Judy though. The GD will understand later, and they don't remember too long about such things. You can tell her later how much you wanted to be there but you had to make sure her grandma was good and healthy first. You are a good man, Charlie Brown!

Oh, Ralphie

Poor Judy, and poor you! That is alot of work when your loved one is that ill. What hospital are you working with? I think I'd change it up and try somewhere else, maybe the Mayo or the U or something. It is C-Diff right? That stuff is terrible and super contagious
