Surviving Minnesota!

Morning

I had to secure the winners position, now I can edit and add stuff.

Layers I have no idea what a duck is worth. BUT I hate it when people try to talk me "down" in price. They answer and ad at a price so they either pay it or not, I am stubborn and will raise the price if they want to bicker. If I asked 40 and they offer 30, I will counter with 45. I had a guy try to talk me down 6 dollars on a group of chicks. I think I was asking 56 bucks on the group. He had agreed to buy them, showed up here then offered 50. I said nope.

He responded " are you really not going to sell them over 6 bucks"...

My response was " are you really going to drive back to the cities without any chicks for 6 bucks."

His next response was " I only have 50"

Mine was "the chicks are no longer for sale"

Life is too short to haggle over 10 bucks. Either pay it or not.

I did not get any baths done. I was kind of under the weather yesterday. I was just dragging all day. I did get a bunch of birds moved. I am getting my breeding pens filled, I have the Doms in one pen and some of the SS in another. I have 2 pens of roosters because they would kill each other if left together.

I lost my old original rooster I got from Heidi yesterday. It is too bad I planned to use him again. I have no idea why. Maybe just old. I only have one of my original CLB's left now the hen with the white recessive gene.

I have to make a decision with regards to CLB roosters to Hutch. I decided they one I had picked was not right, too much blurring of the bars. Nice light color, not enough size and a slight wobble to his comb. I had kind of decided I would go back to Andy. Well, Andy got himself in trouble somewhere yesterday and someone yanked his tail feather out. So he is no longer an option. I had almost caged him a couple days ago, but decided to leave him run around. He is kind of a pet so I let him hang out under my feet most the day in the pole barn. My mistake. Do they make fake tails for them? A wig or toupee for the tailless?

I have to move the DOM rooster back to a smaller cage, he has reverted to being a Sphincter Muscle in the larger cage. He goes nuts when I reach in there. My back up Sport is going into the rooster pen today. He was nicknamed "Mr AngryFace" He refuses to drop his hackles when being held and has a crazy look to his eyes. I am going with the one I posted pictures of the other day. He looks great other than the small crest. He does have a crest it is about 4 feathers large. 4 small feathers.

Judy has taken another step backwards in her recovery. She might have shingles now too. Her Doc took samples of a rash or hives to send to the lab. Her immune system is so compromised now she will catch anything that comes in contact with her. Her Dr. told her she has to be very careful. She came outside twice yesterday, once to fill the wild bird feeders, then again last night to gather eggs and help put the young turkeys away. They, of course, decided to not cooperate. I had to set a camp chair up for her to rest before she could walk back to the house.

I asked her if she should even be outside, she said the Dr told her to try and do whatever she can, without doing something she will never regain her strength.

I am going to Walmart as soon as I finish my coffee, we need a few things. Then hopefully I can get out to the barn and get some things done.

Did I mention I am going to get rid of all the BA's? I might even bring the pullets and hens to Hutch and hope a few get sold. My old BA rooster is in the pen to go to the Nice Asian Mafia lady. If she does not want him I will try canning him like Minnie suggests. He is huge as are his offspring. Holm how did lucky turn out? How large did he dress out? Was his meat tender or tasty?

Other things, I am really liking the spitz's! They are cute small birds that are real curious. When I go into their cage they come over and check me out, they are not flighty. They remind me of SS's in their personalities. I could actually see them being someones "yard pet". I think they are the perfect Fufu. I am still not sure which are boys and which are girls.

I have pens to finish, I am getting behind in the house work, I guess we will live in a little mess for a while. Judy tries to do things but she can't. I wish I had not signed up for Hutch in many ways, it is just too busy. Hopefully it will all work out. ( not meaning to make this a pity party for me, sorry)...

The big decision now is Princeton or Elk River Walmart, or Monticello? Coffee is almost done so I have to decide soon.

Jerry, sorry about your sawmill woes.

I wish I had mine fixed, it still needs a fuel pump, I just have not had time to get to it. I suppose I could have forgone a mushrooming trip to fix it. It has just not been a high priority of mine. I would have gladly let you use it. I also have a Bobcat with log tines on it as long as they are not too large. I only have a little 753 ( I think that's the number, the small diesel one) Most likely the numbers are wrong. It does the job for me, The other thing is my bed is shorter than you want. I only have a 12 ft bed on mine. I have thought about getting a longer bed but that would mean a whole bunch of upgrades. (Like a larger bobcat)

Have you thought about hauling them to a mill to have them cut up? It might be faster and cheaper in the long run. However, there will be more waste and the boards will need a tad more planning than with the band saws.

As fast as the guy you hired works you could have gotten one of those 200 buck frame contraptions that go over the log and used your chain saw to make lumber. You would be done by now.

I am glad you got home in one piece and no homicides occurred on the trip and no one was turned into a toad or frog. All in all I guess that makes the trip a success.

Good morning All.

Ralphie did Judy get a good probiotic yet? There is one called Healthy Trinity, my DH had shingles awhile back and it was suggested to him.

Good Morning Chickeners . . . . .

Welcome Rapids Mama Hen (RMH)

Quite a different kind of day outside to day. The sun will shine and it will be so much better. Lots to do INSIDE out of the 'breeze' and cooler weather.

Janice Jackson, age 50, is pregnant! YIPPEE!

She has to have left her mind somewhere on a chair.

Rod Stewart has been knighted. The world does move along doesn't it?

Yeah a different day colder than .......well you know what...

Speaking of Janet Jackson I think her brain slipped out during "that" super bowl performance.... I suppose Maggie May have knighted Rod Stewart.

BTW back from shopping, not a fun day out there..

I checked the post this morning. Someone else said that they wouldn't pay $20 for a duck so I will see what happens out of that.

Just remember to be polite about it. Doesn't matter what you think those ducks are worth, it matters what the seller wants for them. If you get pushy with them about their claims they are liable to tell you to shove off just like @duluthralphie said. Haggling is a practiced art and offending somebody because of what they write isn't going to get you a deal.

Not saying don't try to get out there and make a deal, just a friendly reminder not to be too proud! Think about how you would want someone to treat you if you were selling.

I tried the Alaska chain saw mill . Ruined a $400 saw or so I thought . Factory authorized shop said cylinder was scarred and could not determine who was at fault . That was a Husky . So I bought a $400 Stihl . I fixed the Husky myself This year as the piston ring siezed due to heat most likely . So no scoring .Started a homemade mill project . Not finished . So custom milling seemed the way to go . I may have to sharpen my pencil and do the cost comparison on bought lumber to buying a new mill that does not have the hydraulics . To convince DW . Really would like a unit like the sawyer had but $20,000 new . My sawyer sold his old mill to Yokum in longville for $7500 so used could work if I can find one . A cheaper mill may require a concrete slab as a stable base . So where do I put that so I do not have to tear it out later . Maybe in front of the shed to become a entrance slab on the back end of the pole building . The project will assess at about $130,000 when finished . I think I can bring it in at around $80,000 my cost . So yes very serious . I can not afford to have walls up and stop for winter . Warped lumber come spring . A roof over it is a must before winter . I could do a basement with the wooden floor cover with tar paper for a winter . That wastes a summer of building . Due to undependable sawyer really .
