Surviving Minnesota!

In regards to reaching a flick to use cups or nipples.... I think the key is to not give them any other options, at least in the learning phase. If they can go to the watering bowl and skip the nipples there is no incentive for them to try the nipple. Consider that when you are teaching them

When I train to the cups I don't offer any other water

Encouraging his duck habit is not good for him in the long run, you might as well give him an ounce of Meth.

I have tried that, but I am a softy. I give in to them. PLease try to keep the "softy" part to yourself, I have a reputation to maintain. They just look at me with pleading eyes as if to say. " Why are you making us die of thirst?"

You definitely need to be smart. Training birds to nipples in high heat would be a bad bad idea.

Good Morning Minnesota Folk.

I have a full day of work, and then I'm off to St. Cloud to pick up a Mission Oak Dining Room Set with DH's pickup truck. I hope nothing flies out of the back and I'm able to cinch it all down well enough. One time I picked up stools at a furniture store and they tied them in --still in their boxes-- and one of the boxes slipped the twine as the wind draft from the truck caught it and it flew out of the back of the truck. One car behind me nearly had an accident. My twins were toddlers in the back seat. I think I was speaking in tongues --not realizing what I was saying-- as my kids were staring at me afterwards with their mouths open. LOL. Anyways anytime I move furniture like that I'm reminded of flying boxes with bar stools. Wish me luck!

It's a down and back Ralphie. It will be dark by the time I get down there or close-to dark. I will get to the holy land someday..... Plus I want Judy to be feeling better before I visit. I did think about it. LOL. Fun to have my chicken People!

As long as we are talking winter prep, I have been on the hunt for trays to grow fodder in. Some kind of flat plastic tray.

I used small plastic totes like a shoebox size last year and that has issues with mold because the fodder was too deep. Some people use planter trays but also say they don't last long before they crack.
Any ideas? Probably needs to be 12-16" wide and 24" or so long and an inch deep.

Go to Farmer's Seed in Faribault and get see starting trays. OR if you want heavy duty, you can get 18X24 Duratrays that are used under rabbit cages from Klubertanz in Wisconsin.

MCM is a little confusing for me sometimes, if you get my drift? I guess I am just Minnie then? I have been referred to as MCM in the past, so just making it clear.

BTW I gave him an ovation too!! I thought it was hilarious and figured he or Holm was going to pipe in with some smart allecky thing ;)
