It is still not raining here due to the influence of Lake Superior, but thus far I have only expended enough effort to go release the chickens. I know that winter is near because the guineas moved back in with the chickens at night as opposed to roosting in the pines. I may be safe to put the BOSS feeders back up? It is borderline as to whether the resident bears are building their new den or not at this time?
Ralphie, I have had all varieties of Chantecler at one time or another. They are all docile and good layers in my experience. The whites are of course most easily bred to show standards, and the PC are a challenge with the color, especially on the females. The buffs are a challenge also as relates to shade of buff and loose feather in some lines. I saw the photo of Mike Gilbert's pullet which won at Hutchinson, and she was outstanding.
It is that time of year when I begin to think of what I will do in the next years projects. I am tempted to go all in and get the three spangled varieties of Appenzeller Spitzhauben next spring. I talked with Dick Dickerson this summer and decided it was later than I wanted to start chicks.
I want to get back into the Wheaten and Blue Wheaten Ameraucanas, and should add some birds to my Buckeyes, Chanteclers and Marans. I may have too many birds when all of this is done?
I am being lazy just working the net while listening to Pandora. I am a real Pandora enthusiast and Norman Brown is playing as I type this.
