Surviving Minnesota!

Meant to upload this last night after evening chores. THis kitten seems to think she is a chicken

Since our little girl kitty was killed by the coons this summer, I think Jerome has convinced himself he is a chicken. I always catch him dusting himself in the dusting spots with the birds! Although, I am pretty sure he is remember he is a cat since he is starting to sniff out all the mouse holes around and is on the prowl to kill him some meeses.

It is good that you and your wife can work together. My DH and I do enjoy working on projects together. The brooder house was a together project and was when I purchased my very own tool belt and tools.
Tonight we had a fun date night (first in a LONG time) and created some art at Canvas and Chardonnay in Rochester. Maybe you and the wife should try it sometime @KlopKlop !

Good morning all,
Deer hunting story..... my husband, daughter, and I all pack our bags travel an hour to my family for the annual hunting ritual. My father in law says a heck haven't been hunting in 15 years I should get a license. 8pm Friday night he buys a license and dusts off 30. 06. Saturday morning he passes on 11 adult deer because he knows he has seen a big one on the property. 10 pointer walks in, he drops it on first shot. Boy am I jealous.

Morning Jerry.... Erli,,and MnMom..

Coffee is good today.

My birds are all upset today. I did not let any out yesterday. I do not think I will let any out today either. I added a new pen on my coop. I would like them to get use to it. They are avoiding going into it unless I chase them in.

We went to see the grandkids in Shakopee yesterday after noon. We knew we would be later coming back so I kept them inside. Also I want to retrain them as to where to lay eggs. I have a feeling I have eggs over a 4 acre area in places I would never guess. I am thinking I will leave them in for a few days.

I do feel guilty when I do this, they all stand at the door/front of the coop and stare at me and scream "let me out".

I am going to be getting double use out of the new pen. It is large enough I can keep all the birds locked up so we can go away for a day or two and not worry about them. Then have enough feed and water and are safe in it. I would still have a neighbor look in on them but it would not be required.

What I really need is a teenage kid that has no driver license and no cell phone or friends to live here and take care of the birds when we have things to do.

The other use of the new pen is for my Legbars. I am going to be putting the Crele or creams in there. Most likely the crele, now that I know what they are. I have a pen and coop for the whites. I want to try and see if I can get a better "cream" color. Now that they are being split into three colors I want to see if I can keep them separate. I have my doubts on it but will try.

This also means I sent a rooster I should have kept to the nice Asian lady, I wonder if I can get it back for breeding. I will be digging through my roosters to find the lightest colored one I have with decent confirmation. I know the comb will be floppy and crest wrong ,but I will deal with that later. This will be welcome news to some rooster.

Judy picked tomatoes yesterday at our sons. His have not froze yet this year. He has tons of cherry tomatoes. Judy ate a few, I am too civilized to eat a raw tomato.

We have church this morning... So no deer hunting. And a bingo party for church that my mom is insisting I go to instead of going hunting. But I want to get The 'One' today.

Must be everyone is taking advantage of the 'extra hour' of morning sun to go hunting. Usually by this time y'all have 25-30 posts up!
It is so nice to have this extension of warm weather to do some work. We picked apples and filled a crock to make ACV yesterday and got everything ready to go out and get the garlic planted, finally. Cleaned up the patio too. Still much to do. You all have a good day today!!!

I have decided to become more accountant like in my chicken operation.

I might need some help though as I do not understand the science of large numbers.

I topped the layers feed off yesterday morning. I re-topped it off this morning.

They ate approximately $8 worth of feed.

At the same time I picked 8 eggs out of the nests. Now we sell eggs for $2,50 a dozen here.

Could someone do the math for me,

I would like to know when I will gross my first million... .

Also I want to know when I will net my first million.

Do you think I should figure the cost of electricity or other expenses into the formula?

Will this make much of a difference?

Thanks

We took advantage to sleep in a little then take a long walk with the pups in this beautiful weather before church.

I don't think you are losing anything planting garlic late this year. I'm a little worried this late warm weather may allow them to break ground.

This is why we stopped free choice feed. Even on days we don't let them range which is rare. If they have feed to eat they eat it. Kind of like us people :)

No deer sighted here . I know 2 I had on camera are gone . I got one neighbor got the 8 point . Just archery here for now . Firearms start the 18th . Grandson skipped out after morning hunt . Sent me a text pic of a squirrel he stuck in his yard with the small game head on his arrow . Bellybutton did not want to help clean up shingles . Said he had stuff to do .
