Surviving Minnesota!

Ralphie after reading your Rooster wrangling I'm glad I only have one. And lovely nice boy he is. I look over my shoulder when he's walking behind me. Habit from dealing with that sneaky bass turd Tootsie who would spur me or take a run when leading his hens up the hill and my back was turned. It was his favorite game.

This boy. Nada. Very respectful rooster. No handling of him either. His choice. But that's okay if I get this in exchange.

I forgot to tell you, I got rid of the SS Rooster that decided he wanted to be Sunday dinner.

He went to live with MnMomChick.    He did not attack me today, he was actually really good with me. It might have something to do with the way I pulled him out of the cage yesterday, Crowed at him, screamed and held him upside down on the floor.

He looked scared.....

Today he did not even peck at me when I took him out of the cage.  I also pawned off an young Yokohama Cockerel on her.  She won't know about it until her DH brings it home. He only had one cage so we used the Asian chicken in a gunny sack method. My Yokohama's are reaching puberty and the fighting is driving me crazy.  They are the meanest little birds to each other.  I have taken a couple out of the cage, it is not helping much. I might take the pullets out and let the cockerels kill each other. Then use the winner for breeding,

They looks so cool, but act so bad.  I have one in the pen with the larger rooster to go to the Nice Asian Lady's house. Since he was put in with the large roosters he has been much better behaved.

RALPHIE - JUST BECAUSE I SEND MY HUSBAND IN MY PLACE DOESN'T MEAN YOU CAN SEND EXTRA BAGGAHE! Yuki is really a good rooster when he is by himself a doesn't see another rooster. I held him and he calmed down. The unnamed ss was also as easy going as ever. Daughter took him out of cage and fed him a few sunflower seeds and he sat right down in the crook of her arm. She is in heaven .... so am I because husband has new feed plans and breeding pen.

The one MnChickMom has now was always good up until about 2 weeks ago. Judy thinks it is my fault. He was so mellow I kept moving him around so I could get the worse BellyButtons into smaller cages to work with them. She thinks his getting moved so often is what made him turn mean. He could just be testing the waters with me too. He is a good looking rooster and SS are normally mellow, so I am not sure what the problem is. I think if I had more time to devote to him he would have done fine. His brother "cuddles" is a sweetheart and loves to be held and "petted".

Really? I asked him nicely if he wanted it......

Yeah, he took pictures of my pens and everything. They work well for me.

I am glad the SS is calm. As I said he was always nice until 2 weeks ago. He snapped at Judy then at me. I think had she handled it different it would have ended there...) See EJB this is Judy;s fault too)...

BTW have your DH stop by next week, I have some more that would like a ride in his truck..

Oh and you have to admit, the Yokohama is a cool looking bird!

I was only kidding..... just that I had to clean the rabbit hutch quickly when I got hhome for Yuki. 3 Quarantine pens are now set up in my shed next to the coop. Wowza I never thought chickens would be so much fun.

DW just asked if we can order another batch of chicks this fall so they would be ready to lay by spring. Our eggs sales have been so good lately we can't keep up. Feed prices are going down too. It is tempting. They would have to be in h house until they were fully feathered then they could go to the new insulated coop with a hover. I am going to sleep on it. Good in theory but busy in practice. I wish she would have agreed a month or more ago when I brought up the idea.

Who broods chicks in November!!
