Surviving Minnesota!

Jerry, in reviewing the Ameraucana Alliance blog it seems that there are several who have become involved with projects to produce blue egg laying sex linked pullets. It doesn't seem that they are approaching it quite like you are though.

Well there are several sex linked traits . There was some controversy over barring 4 or 5 years ago . Only a couple of outspoken members but they were a influence . I was not really into barring except to tinker . I decided to put more effort into it since someone said it was impossible to have slate legs in the presence of sex linked barring . So I did it and posted pictures .

Happy to report ss rooster has been fully domesticated and now he shows signs of love and affection towards the humans. Ok so he tolerated being held by me and didn't try to peck or get loose. Then kids hand fed him boss and he made happy clucking noises while thy held him with one hand and boss in the other. So all is well in the SS world. We are now working with the "other" rooster. He is an escape artist...with the kids at least. He has never tried to peck or even showed type of dominance so I don't know if I believe ralphie saying he got into a few wars with other males.

He only had a chance to fight with the other Yokohamas.. I have one that was so bad I threw him into the [pen with the LARGE roosters and 30 guineas . He holds his own but does not fight. I love the looks of them, but having to keep roosters in individual cages is a PITA. I have 2 cockerels and 2 pullets in the cage now. I am thinking I might have one too many roosters in there. I have another in a cage by himself, and the one in the guinea gulag.

Fufu's are not fun to raise. The Polish are bat poop crazy. The Yokohamas just want to fight. The only good ones are the Applitinnies. They are so mellow and sweet.

I am glad you have the SS tamed down. He was always friendly then turned overnight into a bellybutton. I was tired of Bellybuttons.

I finally have an animal that likes me better than Judy! My little SS pullet, I opened the cage to water her and she jumped on my arm and sat there like a Falcon during a hunt. She did not want to get off me. Judy thought it was so cute she wanted to have it sit on her arm.

She refused to stay on Judy. She would fight her and jump to me. She would just sit on my arm or shoulder and "chicken purr". The CLB pullet is in the same cage as her, the CLB just wants to be held, not roost on me. Judy was kind of hurt the pullet did not like her. But I was happy to have something like me more than her. It seldom happens, even though I am the nicer person..

We did Rooster Caps 2.0 today.

They are better, but the roosters can remove them. I think we need to put a tie under the head.

Nice hats did you knit or crochet them?

So apparently the wife of one of the most successful college volleyball coaches, who lives in Dickinson, has wanted to coach my schools VB team for quite a while but they kept turning her down!!

Makes me so angry since everyone wants our varsity to quit coaching cause she's so bad...

Nope..Judy bought them.

They are baby socks. I think if I could get her to sew (yeah... that will happen).. a strip of elastic under the head area they might work. I might need to put booties on them to stop them from ripping the hats off with their toenails.
I am starting to think you have lost your mind Ralphie .

A word from one of your elders....Do not waste your time or energy being angry over this "rumor". Having served on a school board I can tell you the hiring of coaches is a PITA and seldom is as straight forward as you would think it should be. There are union considerations, logistical items ( which means road blocks to what makes sense). and a ton of other things at play.

Vent all you want, but just do your best with what you have. In 10 years how good or bad your team did in VB will make about as much difference as what you had for breakfast today does.

If you want to look long term, I suggest my other saying, Which I am self censoring as to not offend Jerry......

"In 100 years who will really give a Poop about it"

If people will care in 100 years, then it is worth worrying about....
