Tore ACL. Surgery is $3000 and That's way to much for a dog so she's in the house for now. She is also on a diet since she was a but overweight, it doesn't help that shes 1/4 Australian Shepard 1/4 border collie, and 1/2 great Pyrenees.

Yes we know which is also a small reason we didn't get it, other then it being expensive. The hard thing is keeping her inside and not jumping and running a lot.

Our dog isn't doing well either.... She has a calcium build up in her spinal column which is putting pressure on her spinal cord... She is in pain and had a hard time walking... The vet can't do anything so he gave her pain meds and something else... Now she is just doped up... I think she should be put down but others think different... If she was happy I would think different but she isn't happy and I don't agree with keeping her alive... This is reminding me of the movie Me Before You in a way lol...

Thanks Ivie It's tough... We love this dog so much... She is so good and has never but a single person... She was so over protective of us kids she has become our spoiled little guardian... One time we had a guy over to buy ducks and he was really a sketchy guy if you know what I mean. And that dog could tell. She would not let him get close to us at all. And then another time we had a person over and she was super nice and the dog was just fine?

What about sedating her for a time so she lays low? I don't know but just wondered.

For us it is different. My dad had the deal that she does something bad like kill a chicken or run a cow over a cattle guard the dog gets shot. If she was ever in terrible pain we would shoot her which was also part of the agreement. She is a really good dog though, she can hear vehicles from 10 miles off and knows who it is from that distance, she has saved countless of our small animals lives especially the chicken. And I wouldn't doubt she'd step in front of a bullet for any of us. Like Holms dog she has that sense but its with other animals also which is a big reason we have a no dog rule here since everyone likes bringing their hunting dogs and she beats them up the minute they get out of a vehicle. Excpet one who she likes. She's done the same thing to people who are kind of sketchy, we had a bunch of Ukes over for a party and she wouldn't let some of them into the house, she was 8 months old at the time. She wouldn't let the animals near them either.
She so good around our younger cousins also, she follows them around and let's them hang on her and will not leave their side.

The vet gave us some meds to give to her, she is not happy about being in though.

Tough stuff regarding the poochies holm and layers. After going through dog/vet stuff a couple years ago I don't envy you all one bit.

While tomorrow is to be a day off and I would be doing homework for Grad school I will instead be in TRF at a seminar on Identifying Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. While I hope I never run into this it is a good thing for me to know. Even though we can't "label" it on a child unless the mom openly admits to drinking while pregnant. It should also help with ideas on how to help the child through school. Kind of excited to learn more. Especially for me as I doing my grad work in Special Education. Never thought I would be in Special ed though going through school. Who knows what I will be when I grow up!

Oh the chicken side of things only 3 eggs today. We are butchering extra roosters Saturday mid morning in hopes of encouraging the hens back to laying with fewer chickens in the coop. I will be doing away with 2 silver laced Wyandottes, a few maybe 5 backyard mixes, one RIR, and 1 dominque. There could be more once I get in that coop. I think I have a couple hens that are older and should go to camp also. It should help things quite a bit. I bet everyone will be much happier! Some are small still from our October hatch so they may just end up as dog treats. They love raw chicken. AND before it is said, Yes, dogs can have chicken bones as long as they are raw and uncooked. It is when bones are cooked they splinter so badly and can cause problems. Anyway here's to happy chickening this weekend.

Our dog is done... I can't wake her up no matter how I try now... She is still breathing but won't wake up...
