Surviving Minnesota!

Hey Cluckies....that avian flu out break was in east TN. About a 6-7 hour drive from here. From what I understand it does spread by migrating ducks. Not in a flight path here. Not sure if I should be worried or not...

We will pray it is contained right where it is at so that you and your birds are safe! (and us too!)

Quote: If they find it near you, there is a quarantine put in place of a certain mileage around the area where it was found. If you are within that quarantine area, they will test all flocks in the area, if it is found in your flock, your birds will be eradicated.

Memphis you and your flock are in our prayers! Praying that this is the only out break this year!

I had a bunch of stuff typed and unfortunately BYC got Bucky with my mobile upload of a photo again and it all froze and I had to swipe it off and back on.

Jerry sorry about the confusing ovation comment. New phone also loves auto correcting me. You will love purple Cherokee. Very sweet. Those and the yellow pear tomato. Because purple Cherokee is heirloom it is lower producing as discussed and the ripening time does seem like forever. But worth the wait. I keep them in pots on my deck for extra pampering and watering needs. And as mentioned before the squirrels want to eat these!!! So I use bird netting around my tomato cages not just for free range deck chickens.

Today DS and I walked the frozen lake. Sadie went with with tennis ball in tow. We put some hard miles on that dog. Lol. She's in the best behavior right now.

While we were out there we noted chicken feathers here and there blowing on the melting ice. Some with meat attached. Looks like a production red was eagle lunch out there. Neighborhood loss. Thankfully not mine. I can't wait for open water and ducks returning to gives these eagles something to do. Sorry to say.

My birds enjoyed the day. Junior and the pullets stayed in their little snow locked patch of grass down by the coop. But the old hens traipsed the snow in the yard to get to bigger woods and more lush grass on the septic mound. Their little memories are good. Junior crowed for them but they laid down on a grassy knoll and sunbathed while he yodled away for them. I threw some scratch out for the old girls in their patch of woods and they got a dish of Greek yogurt for their extra efforts. They're so in their element free ranging. You can almost see a spring in their step. Like they are different birds. Lots of crows flying over our yard today. I was grateful to see them all.

I will not try uploading a picture after typing all this. I won't start over.

Guess who might be adopting the most adorable dog Tuesday!... We were hoping for a young dog but my mom fell in love with this one so we are all going to go see her and another on Tuesday but we are filling out adoption papers Tuesday. This dog is a such a sweet gentle dog my mom said! I can't wait to see her... It's been lonely around here without a dog...

BC the eagles and hawks are back here too. Seen a lot of big Goldens so far. Had one sitting on the dead Orphan calf. I think it's time to break out the camera! I absolutely love bird photography and love birds of prey! Especially the Goldens with their HUGE size!

Morning . I deboned all the chicken into chunks / nuggets . Trying to get DW to eat some . You can get a cockerel to seem more tender this way . Pressure cooked the bones to make broth / stock . I fried some for my supper . Turned out good . DW had salad as she is cutting back . I have been tinkering with spices in my flour breading . Kind of finished . It is not KFC but tasty . Chicks due to hatch on 9th . Need to get them in hatching trays today . This should be the first big hatch . About 90some eggs .
