Surviving Minnesota!

Ed I think you need to make a trip west on 200 for a meeting of the minds and luncheon -- take a break from hawks and such-- with Jerry Ralphie and I. We might be able to find you a board or two? Lol.
Lol. That's windy. I've been making soap without goggles lately. One bad slip or splash and it wouldn't be good. Sort of dumb that I've been doing that.

My hill down to the coop is treacherous. It is lumpy bumpy ice and now --over the top is snow so I can't see where I should place a foot. I have not fallen but ... it will be inevitable this spring. Sylvia my old lead hen was walking up the hill for scratch and she slipped and fell on her breast. Lol. Kind of mean that I laugh but she was in such a hurry. I don't think I've seen a chicken slip very often.

Junior took a lower roost to sleep next to Lucy. My big fluffy BLrw. On his other side was his lavender Ameraucana who loves him. And the welsummer pullet wanted to get in that spot. These girls are warming to him. I hope he's treating them more. Will need to sit down for chicken tv to see if he's softening to them.

Edited to add that Meeting of the minds will have at least one person there that is not Mensa...

2....not one...

Ralphie those Doms are amazing!

I think we might be wrong, some guy on the Dominque thread just tore them apart... The best part was they ripped into their "form" and that was the one thing the judges really liked about them over anything else..Oh well, I am guessing the person ripping me was mensa and I am just a regular dumbbell.

I find that odd Ralphie. I think they look great. If the judges liked them I honestly wouldn't care what he has to say about them. Maybe he is one of those people that breeds to the non-updated standard?

Actually as I think about it, I think he has a problem of some kind with Duane Urch or his chickens.

Actually this year I will get the criticism and deserve it as I picked the breeding pairs/match ups. These are purely Duane Urch birds, I only had the privilege of hatching his eggs.

I went out and looked at her really closely and could not see any white in her ear. Oh well. if you don't like it don't look...

I expected some critics but I did not expect them to be slob birds and have everything wrong with them.

I would say if Duane Urch has a block of birds that consistently take home State Fair Blue Ribbons there is nothing to get too twisted about. There are as you are well aware many many experts residing on BYC. Some self-proclaimed. Some deserving of their accolades. The fairest person with Dominques on BYC that will give you always. ALWAYS. the best objective Opinion and on any topic for that matter and is actually great, I think is Centrachid. I like that Poultry keeper.

Ralphie I have fallen in love with these 3 chicks! They seem to be the most friendly. That dark EE with the head spot is feathering in Blue! I posted a pic of the Don and the dark EE and then the really super cute EE. Your EEs are so much cuter than mine!

ETA the little Polish I got is SO loud! The drinker just sits there and cheeps all day and night while everyone else just scratches around and make their cute little baby peeps that I can't hear from the basement! My mother has fallen for the little Polish though!

Exactly. I thought that hen looked great! She is much much nicer than the Doms that were at the State fair! Him having a problem with Duane pretty much explains his whole comment. People confuse me sometimes.

Hey Cluckies - I have / had feather pickers. I looked and looked for a reason. Seems that if they are bored or too many in a space they will pick. BUT! I also found out that if they are pecking and eating the feathers it is for protein. I gave them 22% for a short time and all feather picking stopped. That was late last fall. So every once in a while I will up their protein and then drop it back down for a few months. Repeat.

Just a thought and hey! I had a thought about chickens! I am patting me on the back because I am growing up as a chickener. Or not.
