Surviving Minnesota!

Speaking of roosters...

I had a hen sitting in a nest box for a hour or more. She was giving me the stink eye. I already have the 2 broodies, I do not need a third. I went to reach under her and see if she had any eggs.

She screamed bloody murder at this little intrusion of mine. I set her down but before I had my hand out of the nest, Sven, son of Ole, (EJB's traveling blue egg gene rooster) came running around the corner into the coop so fast he skidded around the corner. He was ready to take on anything. Then Sven's unnamed son was there too, right behind Sven.

I was pretty impressed how fast they were there and how they were ready for anything. They are smart enough to not hit me. I would bet the way they looked a lesser Scandinavian would have been attacked by the two of them as the protected one of their gals.....

I am thinking of renting Sven and his kid out to train the neophyte roosters the rest of you have.

Well got home from wrestling a little after 5pm. Our eldest son Kehan placed fourth. He only had 4 guys in his bracket but all really tough 6th graders. We will try again next year. Eli did as expected and lost out so he did not place amongst his 8 other opponents. One weekend left of wrestling and that is Jaycee State in Grand Rapids April 7th and 8th. Kehan will wrestle on the 7th and Eli on the 8th. It's a fun hotel stay weekend for the kids.

Today I am getting two turken hens, a crested Swedish flower hen, a Swedish Flower hen rooster three young Bresse hens and a Roo (these birds are white, nothing too exciting but they are known to be the most amazing meat birds ever), Bielefelder Rooster, and hen. They closely resembles a cream legbar but the hens lay big brown eggs. Bielefleders are a breed that could revolutionize the chicken industry in America), an Isbar×Svart Hona hen and rooo (these are only cool because of the fibro gene they have black feet so may have black meat and bones), and then a couple of chocolate Orpington Roos. waterers, plastic feeding bowls, an incubator. A nice big kennel, a big bunch of netting for top of runs a couple of cages for transport, etc.

Morning . Another wet day here .

Here too..

They should have a workout the week before, cleaning a pole barn, moving heavy objects and so forth...
