Surviving Minnesota!

Morning . BC the fiddle heads remind me of asparagus . Maybe it is just me . The brown skins tend to have a dry quality on taste . Like spinach or rhubarb kind of dry . On ID the Ostrich fern tends to make a large hump or mound out of the ground . More than other ferns . Huge patch of them at the lake .

Foggy out there . Sun trying to get through . Weatherman says some sun . The hourly on the computer says cloudy .

Got a morning appointment . Then DW wants to get groceries . Weather may slow trip prep . Need to load the sawmill on the flatbed trailer . Decided to not license the mill . Wanted help to do it this past Sunday but it rained . Looks like a solo loading . Need it loaded so I can fill in around it . Always full in the truck bed . Hope I leave on time Sunday .

Jerry, In Minnesota the sawmill would not need a license. It is consider "specialized equipment" like a well drilling unit or a crane. It cannot carry a load so is not considered a trailer under our laws. Also it could be considered an "implement of Husbandry" which also has an exception under our registration laws.

My law books are WAYYYYY of date but I still get updates from the Department of Public safety as to law changes. I do not study them anymore but I do take note of them.

I hope this can help you avoid loading it if you don't need too.

Yesterday Judy had surgery so I was answering from the hospital all day long. Me and cell phone typing do not go well together...... Sorry for short replies..

She s doing fine, in her recliner trying to order me around like her personal manservant. I am headed outside for the day soon, I think.

Erlibrd, I am glad you mentioned the hen with the leg band. I forgot you had her, I was trying to figure out which one she was here. I want to make sure I don't show her this fall as a PC.

Note to others, When mixing a PC with a partridge EE, you can get a bird that looks so PC you cannot tell it is not, until it lays a olive egg....An Olive egg in the cage at the National show of the Chanticler club would be embarrassing...... Which is why Erlibrd has her, so that cannot happen to me.

Wife is against pulling the mill .

Wisconsin is the worry . I hear some real hassles from other travelers . I do not need to sit on the side of the road while some donkey of a trooper gives me a really hard time . Will see how it goes . I could remove the toneau cover and add wood side boards . Put a cargo net over it and hope it does not rain . Other owners report varying laws in their states . With extra room in the truck I could pull the mill . Wife is one of those people who see a problem with every solution .

I did not realize we were Brother in laws.....

The vehicle licensing in the US could be a hassle for you. Here in Indiana (a farm-friendly state), sawmills are in the same category as other farm equipment. I don’t have to license my sawmill to tow it on Indiana’s roads. My son-in-law, the deputy sheriff, tells me that he’s pretty sure that states honor each others’ licensing laws. Of course, that may apply only to non-commercial equipment. Commercial equipment, like a sawmill, may have to be licensed in every state you traverse on your way to the border.

It may be simpler, if not cheaper, to bring a Canadian registered flatbed trailer down here, load the sawmill onto it, and tow the thing home on your legally registered Canadian vehicle.

Never underestimate the trouble that government bureaucrats can create for an honest citizen.

Good luck with it all,

– Loren

Here is something I found while trying to check Wi laws on the subject .
