Surviving Minnesota!

BC, , being an old opinionated man, I could not agree more.

. If more kids would have summer or part time jobs versus whatever else they do the economy of the family units would be better. The kids would learn responsibility and a work ethic they cannot learn at home.

My kids always had summer or part time jobs, they have done great and have awesome jobs now, I think partially because we forced them to get jobs and work for others.
I don't have a job:oops: Otger than working with my dad occasionally... lol

We're probably going to start letting mama hen and her 5-week old chicks out into the yard to free-range today. Bertha (the mama) has been showing a little interest in the other adults the last few days, and I'm thinking she may not want to take care of the chicks very much longer. Before that happens, I really want her to teach the chicks to free-range, use the roosting bar, and help integrate the chicks into the flock. I'm so scared that some predator may get at the chicks, though. I'm going to be a nervous wreck!

Good Morning Chickeners . . . . Been running my butt off this morning. New freezer delivered. Yea.
Holm and ILL's - you both work - hard some days. And keep up with school work and keep the grades up. My sons worked each worked at McDonalds from the age of 14 and on through high school. IDC that it was McDonalds. Yeah - won't say anymore except that all three are successful, educated, producers and responsible. Their family life is pretty good too.
Friday sounds good to me and I will already be in Aitkin. Time and Place is necessary information. I can try PM on this thread again but any help in that direction would be helpful.

Ralphie....I read your comment on SS having such great temperaments. Couldn't agree more! I think they are the perfect "pet" chicken. Surpassed only by turkeys....

Morning all.

EJB.. I think the verb is the wrong tense in your sentence "I was a trouble maker"...:lau

I find the Doms to have the same demeanor as any other breed with the exception on the SS, They are not natural cuddlers like the SS are. They are not flighty but not under foot so you trip on them either. They are not aggressive to other birds.

As far as the combs go, as MnChickmom said, they need to be watched. I do not have the points like she had disqualified, but I have some that are NOT going to ever reproduce here. Some are short, some have "canyons" in the middle some wrap down the back of the head. Some have huge points. The ones she had were strange they were more like bad pimples than a straight gradual point like they should have. I have no idea why hers had them and mine not, beings they all came from Urch.

Mine were my second year of hatching though so I had input as the the parents is the only difference. If you do want some I have several extra "show quality" birds of both sexes and a bunch of layer/pet quality.....

EJB you really need to try a SS with your Cuddling habits..:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau

Today is Mite and lice day. DARN!!! I have so many birds I cannot look at them all. So I pick one or two look at it and figure it is ok...I suppose I end up looking at the same birds because I never chase real hard to get the flightier ones...Holm took a few of my birds home the other day and he found lice or mites on one,,ewwwwwwww.. I really appreciate his telling me. Now I can spend the day touching every bird I own...Lucky me..
Actually I think I will do inside birds and a few pens. I am not up to doing all the birds today..I have way too many..

Does anyone want a toad? One toad! I really screwed up this hatch. Being sick and doctoring and all, I forgot to turn the turntable on so the eggs did not turn for 2 weeks...

I just checked and I have 1 baby out of 50 eggs. When I candled and moved to the hatcher I moved 4. They might hatch but I doubt it.. Toads make great pets, and they can be tasty if anyone wants one..

Tfred want me to drop one by on my way North Friday?.....

Erlibrd I think you need one? Want me to drop one by???
OH Judy is going to Longville For lunch too, You want us to pick you up on the way north,,,,when we drop off your toad?
