Surviving Minnesota!

I thought I would let you know we (meaning the Cream legbar board) on getting a packet ready for submission to the APA.

As many of you know, the main reason I joined the board was to get a modifier on the large combs. I was working for "moderately large" as is on the Delewares.

I have lost that battle. It appears it will be submitted saying a "large" comb. There was some convoluted discussion that large on a legbar is not the same as large on another breed. I guess, I am just too dense to understand that.

I am just letting you that have legbars know this has occurred. I am not sure what this means for them in the northern Tier, or in my flock. I am toying with working on some rose-comb legbars, but unsure if I want to devote the time that would require to a breed I will never be able to show in full competition.

Just wanted to inform you, on the loss of a smaller comb.

Morning . Future is bleak here also . Hey shortest day of the year .
Spring is almost here!!:wee

Ralphie, sorry to hear about the Large comb situation. I think large combs should be optional in he north for all breeds. But who cares what I think, lol

Not looking forward to the lower temps coming up. I have to go out and try and find some big pine shavings. Last batch I got from TS were just slivers, I can't use those as my birds just eat them... Fleet farm only has tiny shavings, starting to get frustrated here. :he

Good afternoon everyone.

Ralphie that bugs me. I haven't had any frostbite in my hens but I imagine you guys have issues with the roosters...

I wrapped my cages with tarps last night... I even set up a warmer pen with my Silkies and two old Cochin Bantams... Those Cochins are my favorites and I would be heartbroke if something happened to those little ladies... They usually raise 3 broods a summer for me...

Cluckies I went from using just shavings to straw with shavings sprinkled on top for odor control...

Thanks Holm, I tried straw a few years ago, the ladies were too dumb and ate it, 3 got impacted crops from it so now I stay away from it... but that is a good idea...
