Surviving Minnesota!

I was a nutrionist for nearly 10 years. Cattle use lysine. A concentrate as you described certainly has lysine. Fleet has an ok product, but being inexpensive, they won't guarantee the lysine level as it is an expensive supplement.

My two cents- I sold Purina products for 8 years as a nutritionist and was a feed plant manager for Cargill Nutrena/Naturewise/Sprout) for 4.

I have a small flock, so it's more affordable, but having been involved in some of Purina's research over the years, I absolutely believe in their products, quality, safety, and research.

I do understand those of you with more mouths to feed looking for less expensive options. I believe that with them you get what you pay for.

Cool, I can cut back on the supplement then!!! :gig:gig:gig

There is always a problem with feed.

I have been the full circle a couple times... I use a mash...They don't eat the fines...

I go to crumbles and they throw it on the ground....

I use pellets and I have some spoiled birds that refuse it...and with all you get fines... they simply refuse...

I am about ready to bury a soybean under the snow...a kernel of corn somewhere else and tell them go hunt for it...

I forgot if is is not ground fine enough the squirrels move in and eat it...

I am now operating under if they seem healthy are fairly plump and I get eggs..Life is good.

Oh, I forgot to mention all the good stuff they get from eating eggs!

I wish you people with egg eating chickens (looking at Holm)...Would keep them away from my perfectly behaved birds at the shows... I would never let my birds teach yours bad habits..........WATCH YOUR BRATS!!!

whew... I got that off my chest..

I had to put just a normal lamp on my Black Cochin cock. When he drinks he dips as much of the rest of his body in the water as he possibly can and tbis last week he got pretty sick from it. If he wasn't so important and the only one I don't think he would be getting a lamp. The Blue cock hasn,t lost a single point yet! I have been very diligent on putting Freezgard on and it works so well!
Is the freezgard you use the ointment or the cream? I can find the cream in 16 oz, but the ointment only in huge buckets...

Mine like the Naturewise crumble. I wish the protein was fishmeal rather than soy based, but what can you do.

Good morning all. It is colder than a witches' heart out there.
These are the mornings which I wish the buildings were heated for the benefit of the human involved in this bird keeping. The birds don't seem to mind as long as they are dry and out of the wind. I will say those with a large comb and wattles do mind, but I have gained enough experience to know those birds are not worth keeping in my climate.

-2 here . Found some frozen eggs yesterday . Nobody was laying . So now I guess I need to check several times a day . I was ready to celebrate not having to check for eggs . No lights and enough eggs to last awhile .
