Like the photos Holms.
BC those canines are not coyotes.
Calving ease is a genetic trait which can and should be selected for especially with regard to first calf heifers. In my herd that heifer would go after that trauma and the calf is weaned. It could be a genetic anomaly but is likely due to a mistake in herd management?
Ralphie, we have decades in the lessons of female psychology and still have difficulty understanding their logic from time to time ? Just go with the flow is a philosophy which I have adopted.

Morning

I think that a 2** pound calf is ridicoulous and greedy. Honestly you look at people with huge bulls, and that stuff creep feed into there calves and usually they aren't making any more then people who don't have or do that. I see people like my family, with bulls who aren't monsters and the calves are only fed on grass, getting more money, for calves that are the same darn weight in the end. Heck my grandpa and uncle don't have monsters bulls and don't creep and there steers usually weigh 600+ by November! They start calving in mid March.

Well I should give people the benefit of the doubt as holms has. Just in this day and age of bigger is better I get more salty and suspicious in my older years.

Ed I noted they were a tidge taller than coyotes. :D And you and Ralph are my favorite to tease a bit on women behaviors . You especially with your special arrangements with snow removal, landscaping, light fixture installation... :gig

One of my fancy instagram chickeneers got some Ameraucana -lavender - eggs to hatch. I love that there are two in my coop.

Warm day ahead. I can go for that!
:eek::highfive: :yesss:

I wouldn’t call it greedy.. We ran an angus bull our first year that weighed 1400lbs and we weaned calves off that were 500lbs. We switched over to a SimAngus bull that now weighs around 2000lbs and we weaned steers that were pushing 700lbs and even pushing 800lbs on one. We start calving the last week in March and have all our calves on the ground the 3rd week in April. So you can figure they put on over 100lbs a month on nothing but grass and mommas milk. And the calves were all consistently about the same size compared to the last few years. A uniform group in the ring sells better than a group of mixed sizes ; )

Now the most amazing part is now all the heifers we kept that averaged 632lbs are 8-850lbs 3. You have to consider the feed conversion and all that.

Now this coming fall we will be selling this bull we have and getting a PB Simmi bull for a little more Hybrid vigor with our calves instead of an F2 SimAngus
