Surviving Minnesota!

We are indoors at the University of Wisconsin, so unfortunately the cold isn’t a factor to speed her up. She’s just glad she didn’t trip over the hurdles!
Lucky her! We have never been to an indoor meet! I do hurdled too, I have been doing them since 7th grade, so this year is my 4th year, I have gotten very lucky and never fell while doing them, but I have gotten bruised a few times

I’m sure it’s better than a jack rabbit :)sick) but idk if it’s better than a cottontail... I kinda like Cottontails...:drool

Come on down here and spend a week shooting the cottontails. I have never eaten them. I just shoot them and composed or burn them. They destroy my garden and I think they bring more predators around-----Not that my chickens don't attract a few predators too.

On that note guess which old man forgot to shut and lock his coop door last night?

Around here a open door is like a buffet for predators . Coon 11 this morning . All males so far . That means there should be a similar amount of females .

I have (knock on wood) been lucky with the senior moment nights so far. I have one of those silly red blinking flashers made to keep predators away. Hopefully it actually works.

You must live in heavy coon area. I am more worried about fox, coyotes and owls.

Coons are our biggest problem here. We also have hawks, mink (a real problem here last year, but not usually), coyotes, and skunks. We have bald eagles here, too, but have never had one go after a chicken that I know of.

I have bald eagles, They have taken a couple. I have like 4 million bald eagles in a 10 mile square area here.. I have lost them to Kestrels, and normal hawks. I suppose i have lost them to coon but have never seen one or had one on camera or in a trap. I have smelled skunks but they have not gotten any coons that I know of.

I had a neighborhood dog problem a few years ago, but something must have happened to the dog, it quit coming around...;)

We have a slough just across the road from us that has hundreds and hundreds of geese during the migration. The eagles follow the geese. We have had up to 75 eagles in our grove, the grove across the road and in various trees around that slough at times. (Not many yet this year, but then the water is a little "hard" for the geese right now. We also have a nesting pair of bald eagles less than a mile from our place.

I can't imagine what could have happened to that neighbor dog. *cough, cough* Must have had an accident or something...
