Surviving Minnesota!

Sorbitol and Olestra have the same effect . Cruel jokes .

I have never had a problem with those, but I know they can do that. Of course, now that I have graduated to the air fryer all oils are out of our diet.

The USDA vet did not show yesterday she went to some kind of outbreak of something or another instead. She is coming today. Did you know she can only visit a farm with the same animals every 3-4 days.

If she shows here today, she will not be able to see anyone else with chickens this week. I thought that was interesting, considering she wears that spaceman suit when she is here.

Also, today will be an important day. I might have lost Ed yesterday. I let his "kids" out to play yesterday, when it came bedtime I could not find ED. When Judy and I were testing chickens we heard a terrible chicken cry from the area they were in. It sounded like a chicken screaming in the mouth of something as it was moving towards the swamp fairly fast.

I went and checked and all the kids were there. I never checked for ED. Never gave him a thought. Last night he was not there at bedtime. It is possible he decided to sleep somewhere else. Ed does not roost, he sleeps on the ground behind something or in a corner.

The kids did not want to go to bed. They wanted treats instead. They refused to follow me into their pen. I was forced to use the water hose and spray water at them to get them back in their pen. As it was I had to pull a half dozen off places they were not suppose to roost and throw them in the pen.

Its raining down here so I'm taking some time to finally get my housework done. I've been trying to catch up out in the barn and get gardens cleaned up. It's hard to believe that just 2.5 weeks ago we had over 20" of snow again. Grass is finally starting to green up after a few nice days. Yesterday I caved in and hit the greenhouse for enough flowers for all my planters. I have to wait and see what perennials come back up before I have to buy more to fill in.

Birds have been laying like gangbusters lately... Have enough standard cochin juveniles that I kicked those adults out so I can use their pen for grow outs. My black and buff silkies finally started laying so I kept the incubator running for them. Well heck I threw the white and partridge eggs in too and now have a huge mess of them in my brooders. I barely put an ad up yesterday on one of my breed club sites and within an hour I had every single chick/juvie snatched up that I'm willing to sell on the silkies. A guy is driving up from NC and picking up an older gal in KY on the way. 18 hours each way.... :jumpy:jumpy:jumpy:jumpy:jumpy:jumpy:jumpy
