Surviving Minnesota!

Oh @ejb3810 do you let your pigeons brood year round? I pulled all my meat boxes to try and discourage my pairs but one pair found a corner and made a nice little nest. Edward Christel (Als son) told me they would be fine in my insulated coop but thought I’d ask you too? I can set them up in a warmer spot if they hatch any out.

I do not wish to brood year round. In our climate it is difficult to raise winter babies. Invariably the cock and hen will mate, lay eggs and hatch them. The problem usually comes at the time when the parents are no longer sitting on the chicks 24/7. The cold they are subjected to stresses them and most die, even those that survive will rarely thrive.
I separate the breeder cocks and hens about mid July. Many in the race industry mate up about Thanksgiving if they have a heated coop. In this part of the country if no heated coop a common pairing time is around Valentines day.
You can remove next boxes but that will not result in no breeding or nesting. They will find a spot to build a nest even on the floor.

Forgive me for invading your thread, but I need (a lot of!) snowblower help.
What does that thing plug into, and is it important if I’m going to use the electric start option?

I wish for once we could get snow without wind. Just a nice snow that comes straight down, today they are forecasting 3-5 inches with 40mph winds...
I need to clean the cochin coop and brooder this weekend, with the warmup on Tuesday and Wednesday it has everything feeling a bit damp

You live in Nodak......You will never be without wind.... You need to move to a more pleasant place......How does McMurdo station sound to you? The climate is much better there than what you are use too.

Yep, It is vital for electric start...
You plug an extension cord into it. Once started you unplug it and blow your snow.

That said that dangling red wire looks out of place, like it is not connected to whatever it should be connected to.
