Surviving Minnesota!

I started feeding Nutrena feather fixer to my molting birds and mix it with my reg feed for the bantams. I dont care for the amount of fines that are in the bag.

It does seem to keep the glow and shine in the bantams but I have been pampered with full 50 lb bags with very little powder from Heims so my expectations were high.

They used to tout vegetarian feed on the bag. Until I suppose somebody told the marketing team chickens are omnivorous. I don’t think they tout it any more. But not sure if their formula has animal by product now. ... ? At any rate here is my spilled feed solution. Still get some as you can see. But look at what the bowl is catching!

I saw this from a lady I follow on Instagram. She’s got rats so she minimizes feed spillage and what she leaves out at night. Etc. I guess this little maneuver has saved her quite a bit.

I see I have my own vermin hiding under the feeder in the rubber bowl. Schiting in the middle. Dirty buggers. Maybe I'll take my feeder in at night. Although it's just another manuever and thing to carry down to the coop along with water.

MNChickMom. My First bag of Feather Fixer (about 5 years ago) had a Green and Blue Mold on it when I opened the bag. I took it back to L & M and got a new bag. There is a ton of particulate to that feed. It's weird. Now I just feed Tuna fish during the molt. one Can a week. Just to give bumps in protein. I also go strict on just feed -- no/very little scratch and treats. Leftover venison spaghetti sauce is also a good bump. But I understand leftovers from a family of four will feed 7 hens better than a barn-full. :)

I wonder why I couldn't put everything I had to say last night into one post instead of 4 or 5 . I suppose I'm trying to catch up with my post numbers as of late.

Well how nice. A beautiful rain gave my children a skating rink to go to school on this morning. They delayed school two hours. Of course they won't take the bus... argh. Surrounding schools full on cancelled. But not ours of course. Oh I get anxious about roads. It is my 'nut case' thing. 35 degrees driving to work though. Chemicals trying to get through the icy crust. I'd rather have the snow....

Jerry it looks familiar....and I do think I have one on or near my property. The blossoms are those that I thought were chokecherry. I'm thinking it's this now. Very very fragrant woods when they are blossoming. I guess though I don't remember the leaves and such looking that way. This is definitely a prunus species by the looks of the leaves I would say. I think also the way it ripens and dangles is indicative of other species like dogwood and such...and so would be careful taking look at what you got there.

One time when we lived down by St. Cloud...I found a bountiful/ ripe choke cherry. Easy pickings. Started pitting and every one had a little worm or grub friend within it. It all got pitched out in the field. Not game for extra protein in the chokecherry jam. LOL.

It is viburnam prunifolia . My spelling may be off . I know I have seen it at the lake . Maybe I can find ripe ones this fall .

Good morning all. I heard the wind blowing earlier this morning and a dusting of snow here.

It is quiet on the thread this winter isn’t it? Have we given all the advice and malarkey we can give?

Any Ralphie stories?

I am dieting for the new year for the 12 millionth time. Any body watch the Netflix documentary ‘magic pill’ ? It’s excellent. I am trying keto. See what happens.

I kinda already feel good on it.
More alert and such.
