Surviving Minnesota!

Thanks, Bobbi J And everyone else!

Yes they’re Highlands and with this winter we’ve been having... I’m very glad for their shaggy, shaggy coats! :)

Wow, great ad for a truck... the rest of them, I think they don’t get us at all. Next truck (if there is one—I’m old after all lol) will most likely be a Dodge. I’ve been thinking that for a while. Used, yeah, but still...

Looks like chicks won't be moving outside this weekend. On the 2nd and 3rd windchills are -40 or colder at night... they are going to need to find somewhere else to live in the house for a couple weeks it looks like.

I know the feeling of keeping them inside when you want them outside.

I love Highlands! When my kids were younger (Jr. High or younger HS, I don’t quite remember), we saw a team of them at the State Fair, pulling a wagon of some sort. What caught our eye was the silver and turquoise headpieces. One of the boys said, “That looks like something out of Star Wars!” I’d love to have a few of them in my pasture. I don’t think I could eat them, though. They’re too cool looking.

If you get some I will make you the same offer I made Cindy... I will eat them for you.

I am not fond of Smelt, says the man who once filled two gunny sacks with them in an evening. They were running so thick you could literally put your hand in the Knife river and grab a handful. When we came back by the Lester river they were getting none. We gave one gunny sack full to some tourists from the Mn. Banana Belt. The best gift we ever made to someone. My buddies 65 GTO smelled like Smelt for months. I told him don't put those in your trunk, as you will surely regret it.
To catch an eelpout in the spring or summer you must use live minnows fished on the bottom after dark. We used to fish that way for Walleyes and usually had a few of those ugly things bite as well.

BC and Cindy, you are both super good at your crafts! I can't paint or draw, and mom has tried to teach me to crochet and knit to no avail. Give me some kind of equiptment to work on or livestock any day!
Let me tell you something Layers. If you know how to fix equipment or are mechanical in any way--that is like gold at our house. And I've always regarded mechanics as artists in their own way. High respect for people that can fix cars/tractors whatever and people who can build houses/ buildings.
