Surviving Minnesota!

I have visions of
I have visions of Ralphie using breast milk in his tea . :drool or BC making soap .

I used to feed twins. It is liquid gold. When the kids were babies I decided to drink alcoholic beverages for the 4th of July. Then Pump and Dump. Stooo-pid. I decided right then and there I would hold off on bevies until the wee ones were off liquid gold. I about threw up throwing out my milk. Nothing is as good as breast milk. Perfectly designed.
That being said I would not buy breast milk off of Craig's list or a used pump even. Hepatitis and other viruses are the risk ( I remember the lactation nurse telling me).

Soap: I have a Hades of a time finding goats here on the Chippewa National forest enough as it is. And although it made beautiful soap the sugars in the milk drove my heat in the soap too fast (even ice cubing the milk) and I ended up with brownish soap instead of creamy white. It was a nice process. But I don't have patience or resources for ugly soap. It's expensive enough as it is to make. Probably like chickens and Maple syrup.

Can you tell I'm a frugle person? LOL.

That's why the only milk soap I make is the oatmeal, honey bar. The golden color works for that one.

Sorry to read about your Dad BC. My Mother in Law recently passed. Very sweet lady. Very hard for my wife as they were very close. Now she is spending time caring for her Dad. Thank goodness she has a brother who has decided to be very helpful now that the money is in close sight. Rarely came around when his mother was alive ?
I made a commitment to acquire a breeding flock of Wheaten Marans. A lady I know has been developing her flock for many years and has decided to get out of chickens completely. I will get her hens in the fall.

Good luck on the Marans, I tried a few Cuckoo marans, they did not work for me. They only laid an egg once a weel between the 4 pullets... I got rid of them I have enough freeloaders.

I think I found a way to use 12 cups of sap up that I will not get processed. I am smoking fish and a piece of ham buttocks this afternoon. I used the wood I trimmed off the apple trees and instead of water I filled the bucket with maple sap.....

I soaked them in a solution of salt and some of the "strong over cooked" Maple molasses like syrup I made. It should taste like maple, or apple or box elder juice, one can never tell.
