Surviving Minnesota!

Warning all... do not trust the ice!!

I went out to snare a couple bunnies.. and broke through the ice in the swamp..

Spent about 10 minutes getting free.. the ice was only about an inch deep under the snow..

currently my leg is freezing.. but I am safely back in my chair..

and I did not find a good bunny trail.
The reason old men get injured is because they still try to do things they did when they were younger . Don't ask me how I found out .
So I have been making lumber . Got a pickup load level to the side of fence boards . Going to square the ends and cut the 45 degree dog ears . Feeling good enough to do the work . A real plus for my blood sugar readings . I can cut my doses of insulin down . Should take all day if I last all day . Did 3/4 of a load yesterday and my body said stop about 3 PM .

Heck, my body (or maybe my head) usually says “STOP” as soon as I open the darn door. It’s 33* today, but the awful wind belies that number.

This bunch of chickens are not the brightest..

They are still afraid of the snow and it’s been on the ground for over a month now...

I brought them feed this morning and a couple were afraid of me so they flew, but then they were surrounded by snow and terrified.

They have not come out of the run in two weeks or more. I guess I did not plow good enough and the WW stopped shoveling a path for them.

I might have send them all to Memphis they are such prima donas.

If we never see EJB again it’s a safe bet he won the gopher 5 drawing. Someone in Hermantown won 1.8 million...

of course, knowing EJB he will claim it wasn’t him..
The ticket was purchased at the Hermantown General Store. My wife says now I won't be such a drain on the family finances.
Hermantown General Store is only 1.5 miles from my place. good location to buy Gopher 5, but wish I had won Mega Millions !

I got one chicken that blossomed her pin feathers last night in the -13 F or whatever the fudge that was last night. It doesn't matter once past -10 for facial freezes and nose nares sticking etc. At any rate I gave her a can of tuna Saturday when they were quite a strip of blood feathers down our abodomen (rear presentation) and Neck. I was going to rename her cactus. But it seems the Tuna worked in the nick of time. She's got new dark fluff happening back there. She's real late for this weather. I'm pretty sure she's a March or April bird. About 22 months old. She really held on. She is from Duluth, a give away (we're home #4) Nothing about the bird just her survivability and set ups. Any ways I'm glad she is covered again. I did see some blood on the right side of her neck. Somebody was helping her with a blood feather not quite ripe I suppose.
