Surviving Minnesota!

That is a really good idea about grinding it up. Definitely for the rooster if we get one and do not want to keep him. I heard rooster rainbow dixies can get really big.

They get large, but you would find them the sweetest kindest bird there is. For their size you would think they would rule the coop, but they don’t. They are so mild tempered the smallest bird intimidates them. But they do like to sit by your feet or to be held.

I was wondering, Ralphie, since you mention grinding chicken: Do you just grind it as is, or does it need added fat or anything else? I'm actually wanting to do turkey breast. I'm not a big fan of white meat. DH won't eat anything else 🙄, but there's always so much more of it, and he declares it inedible after it's been in the fridge for more than two days. And it is not properly cooked in his eyes until it is good and dry. 😂 Mama is a sweet, lovely lady--couldn't ask for a better, but she cooked her protein to the hockey puck stage. 🤷‍♀️ :lau I just don't like it that done... So, ground turkey: how would you do it?

I have a fancy grinder, I just grind the bird itself. We don’t fry the meat like a burger.

We use it on tacos, chili, chow mien and stuff like that. When we fry it I like to add a little butter because it’s so dry. The WW just uses oil.

In a meat loaf you would want a little butter along with eggs and onions so it’s not too dry.

Old chicken tastes great, it’s just so hard to chew and swallow.

My rooster is so big but he is one of the friendliest I have ever raised.
Big friendly rooster, the toad “Bert”.

I will use any excuse to show his picture.

Older chickens make the most flavorful chicken noodle soup.
