Each type or species has its own method of asexual reproduction . Reds at least the tame ones sucker as do our wild blackberry . Black raspberry the new canes grow and bend towards the ground and root when the tip touches the ground . Trailing thornless blackberries are really more of a dewberry and root like strawberry runners . We do not have wild reds here in Illinois only blacks grow wild here . The wild ones up there may sucker I just have not paid attention .I thought they all came up from roots or suckers. I didn't think the suckers ran very far, not like strawberries, but still from roots. But to be hinest, I have never looked very closely, normally I am just chopping the things with my brush hog to get them out of my way.
