Sad news, im down to 49/50 i dont know what happened, looks like he just laid down and never got back up? I know this is normal for CXs sometimes, or any 2 day old chicks really, but still is a bummer. the rest are looking great though! wing feathers are coming in and they are packing on the weight already!

Isn't it amazing? Before Chickens . . . . Now when one is lost I grieve. I am new enough that I recall each chick/chicken I have lost and why.

Hey, it happens to all of us. Just keep their area clean & well bedded, adding the ACV & electrolytes are in order. Some of them just don't make it, especially with CX.
On a side note, how's that plastic wound healing? The dog bite I have is somewhat problematic here.

It is healing up nicely. the last of the scabs peeled within the last few days. NOw i just have some nice new pink skin with just a little scarring where it was worst and one spot where i picked a scab too early. I was going mad as it was sooooo itchy in the last week as the new skin grew. I am pretty proud of myself because i took such good care of it always keeping it soft with ointment so it would heal nicely. I am usually not very good about keeping my wounds clean or cared for because 'who has time for that'

did your bite get infected? that can really make a mess of bites with how deep they can penetrate

Ive got the day off today and it looks like it is going to be crappy sadly. there is a light dusty snow falling right now but not sticking which is good.

chicks all look good today. I will be putting the final touches on my corn grinder today hopefully and will be mixing my own feed within the next few weeks when the CXs are ready to move off chick starter. I need to call the feed mill in wanamingo and get the minerals ordered. they are the closest i have found it. the local feed store can get me a similar product but it is more expensive and has some questionable ingredients in it that I dont care for

Selling 2 1/2 dozen eggs today to my math teacher.

We have an early release today! So track practice goes til about 4:30, instead of 5:45.
I will have a bunch of time at home to do stuff with my chickens!

And hopefully restart barrel training with my mare Sneaks.
