Surviving Minnesota!

Awesome! I have been reading the Legbar standard and trying to remember it!!

I have a question for you,,,,, Do you want to take a couple females when Mr T comes here, or wait until Mr T goes home?

I am hoping to get some females for us out of this hatch... I was kind of thinking of keeping them until Mr T goes home just because it will be warmer..

I am thinking of letting You have Andy at some time in the future, for the breeding trio, unless one of his brothers look better. Andy has earned a special spot here in the house. He was quite upset last night when we made hi go back into the cage like a common creamer. He stood on top the mama cave and squawked like a mad man while looking at us. My DW went over and took him out, and sat down and watched TV while holding him, and he was happy and quiet. I am not sure but I think she has him a tad spoiled.

Morning folks.

Ralphie, I am glad to hear you have more chicks coming!! We are anxious to see them!

The wind out there is killer!! Really, really making things miserable!

Stay warm and enjoy your beautiful February Friday my Minnesota friends!!

Edited to add the air temp is a mere -7 but windchill is -30. Gotta love it!!

Planning the gardens, making a spring to-do list. Yes, I am anxious for the sun to shine and the air to warm. LOL. Love living in Minnesota.

Sounds like a great thing to do on a cold, blustery day like today.

There is one little Creamer in the incubator this morning and a couple pipped.

I noticed before the CLB's hatch closer to 22-23 days. Which is weird. To have the CLBs hatching a full 2 day after the mystery bird is odd. But last hatch the CLBs were spread out over 3 days.

Jerry Why is that happening? I know I am running about 0.3 degrees cool (except the spike which I think now was a probe on the element) but cane that make that much difference?
A late slow hatch means it is too cool no matter what the thermometer reads . Bump it up about 1/2 degree .

Thanks.. This was my last hatch in the foam ones, but I will bump them a tad so I can use them as hatchers. I probably ended up a little low from fear. I hear all the horror stories of too much heat is worse than too little and kept on the down side.

Up the temp will go,,,(hands shaking from fear as I twist the knob!)

If you keep a close eye on temp you will notice that the chicks will heat the incubator themselves near hatch [if you have a full load ] . So if you are a little low you will see it go up a little . That will be the right temp .
