Surviving Minnesota!

What are the possible parents ?

Just about anything. He comes from a dark brown egg. I am thinking the egg could be:

Barred rock
BA
Rainbow

There is an outside chance it was from the CX's or Cx' rainbow cross, I doubt the cx though cause they are lighter. I do not remember getting a darker brown from Bert's girls , but in that case Bert would have to be the Dad and the legs would not be black on the front and there would be no black in the bird...whewwww LOL.

The Dad could be:

PC
BA
EE
EE/CLB cross.

The white tips on the feathers make it hard to figure at all.

The white one looks like the center of the head and neck are yellow without any white spot . So i agree on pullet .

That black one . Could it be part toad ? Seems really meaty . Something black or hiding black in the mix .

The white wing tips indicate extended black .Black Extends into and covers the white areas . BA and barred rock are extended black . Barred rock are black with barring .

I did not want to say Toad but body type says toad or CX cross, but then the BA rooster would have had to get at it.

I forgot I have RIR also.

My best guess now is rainbow with BA. that would be somewhat meaty.

Here are some more pictures, I am not sure of the comb type. I am just not that good.

Looks like a pea/single comb . My guess is the mother was barred . So that is a sex link cockerel . Do the rainbows have single comb ? If not then the hen was a rainbow /cx mix with a pea comb and dad probably a BA .

I will go look at the rainbows right now. It is impossible for it to be BA/CX mix as they have not been together since early November.

Ok I looked. the Rainbow hens have large single combs. They are not barred though, they are "calico" Not sure how to describe them.

Ok if no hens had pea comb then to get a pea comb ( i see 3 rows ) it had to come from the rooster . Is the EE the only pea comb rooster ?

Yes, it could be a BA hen and a EE rooster. The only pea comb I have is Sven, Ole's son who carries on the family raping business. I did see him "rape" one of the BA's but I thought Ed knocked him off before he could finish....I guess not. This guy looks like he is going to be barred.

Yes he is barred . So is Sven barred ? If so he is the daddy and the mom BA . Still a single barred cockerel but not sex link .
